My Samsung UN46C6400 LED TV image is ghosting with vertical streaks.. Sometimes its fine, but after a while it gets worse, then better, then worse again. By ghosting I mean that a bright image like someone's face will remain visible on the screen after the video of it has passed. Eventually it fades away or is replaced with another bright image. There are also vertical streaks that appear to come and go. Sometimes the image is fine but then it gets worse. I have the back opened up. I was looking to see if any capacitors on the power supply looked damaged tops bubble up but no. There is however a 1.5square offwhite component in the middle of the board that is not flat - appears to be curved up. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

That is the power board for your television. I am not able to read the numbers on the item you are talking about. I dont beleive the issue you are talking about is related to the power board though. It is disturbing to note that none of the boards are in stock for your set. Also you should know that it is impossible to tell if some components have failed just by looking at them. Capacitors are one of those that come under this catagory.
Testimonial: "Yes I am concerned that I cannot find parts except for used parts on ebay. I have a bunch of capacitors left over from a motherboard repair I did a few years ago.. Probably not the same specs but I have them.. Wondering if I can get a page out of the repair manual showing where I can test the power board voltages to possibly narrow the problem down to a replaceable component. I'm having a hard time locating a service manual.."
Sorry to keep pushing this but if its not the power board I'm wondering if it's the display panel itself or the ribbon connectors that connect to the panel? I'd like to get a diagnosis so I can decide whether or not to pursue repairing it. It's actually working right now but I had to shut it off for a while and then turn it back on. It's a shame because the picture is really good on this set.

It sounds like an Intergrated Circuit (IC) has fried. Even on a good day, this is not something you can attack at home. As a tech (and as an owner of that model samsung), I'd need a map & tools to know what's going on. Your best bet in this situation is to contact Samsung and let them recommend an authorized service center in your area. Sorry I can't be of more help, but this is a rather serious problem.

It's well worth replacing the capacitors, but this problem can be caused by a short on the power supply (Which is what the caps do). Most shorts that arise in power supplies are result of a shot transistor or diode and of course the electro caps. Check these while your changing the caps.
Good luck with it.

Howdy,
It would be a lot cheaper if you just replace the two caps that have gone bad. Just get a cheap solder pencil from the store and about an inch of solder and you are in business.
The Power Supply Board is the center Board (towards left) after you remove the back off the TV. Remove Board from TV with the 6-7 screws. Replace capacitors CM852 & CM853; 2200ufd 25volts.
Thaks for using FIXYA, BIG IRISH.

It is the Main A/V board that is faulty, not the power supply. The rainbow screen that you are seeing and the searching for signal message before it shuts off confirms this. It is the large board at the center of the tv. If you can get me the part number off it, I can find you the replacement. It will be either printed on the board itself or on a small label.
Sai.
