Bernina 790 will not return to “home screen” even after turning off

Difficult to understand your question. Why would you need to adjust a presser foot shank? It should either work on your machine or not. If it is the wrong presser foot, then you should get the correct one. The only adjustments I've heard being made on Bernina presser feet is to adapt a presser foot for an older machine to a newer machine, or vice versa. That involves making a permanent modification to the latch apparatus.

If it is new then contact the supplier or Bernina themselves. It could be that the noise you are hearing is normal or the timing might be ever so slightly out. Not enough to affect the stitching, but just enough to slightly unbalance the machine.

I took my artista 200e to my local bernina dealer and my machine needed to be upgraded - it hadn't had a software upgrade since new. I got it back today ad it's now working fine
