SOURCE: compaq 252608-001 motherboard

Its not written on the board...
All that's written on it is the P codes, which are damn hard to read as it is, never mind trying to read anything on it...
Spkr and HDLED, and PWRLED are all marked, but the pwr and reset arent... or if they are, i cant find them

SOURCE: How to connect power led ,HDD,Reset,power SW cables in hp motherboard s/n 383620-001

check your motherboard manual if you do not have it go to www.support.hp.com and look for manuals based on the model. this should give you detailed instructions as to which pins you plug those cables into. usually they are located towards the bottom of the motherboard to the right of your PCI Expansion slots

SOURCE: power light flashing

Sounds like the Power Supply is bad likes its not able to power on itself. Best thing to do, try a different known good power supply and attach it to the motherboard, if you get the same symptom with the machine not powering on then its a bad motherboard. If the machine does power on then you know your original power supply is bad.

IP address change needed on a AlphaServer DS10

First, identify the NIC you wish to change; use:

$ MC LANCP <ret>

> SHOW DEVICE

Next, use the menu driven utility "TCPIP$CONFIG", to set your desired IP address etc:

$ @TCPIP$CONFIG <ret>

Option 1 - core environment

Option 2 - Interfaces (then select your NIC or the IP Addr to change)

Option 2 - add/change a Primary address on *** (where *** is your NIC).

NEED CMOS BATTERY NUMBER FOR LOCAL PURCHASE.

just take the old battery to any shop, like Radio Shack, it is a common 3.6V Flat cell, they are pretty common, often used in car remotes etc, as long as it is the same voltage and size you can use any brand.

DS10 with SBS PCI Expansion

Version 7.1-2 is an older version of the OS. I will have to check, but I think that V7.2 will resolve this. What version of TCP/IP are you using? Back in the day when I supported TCP and VMS, there were some timing issues that causes odd behavior. If you can provide the details about your configuration, I can check and get back to you. If necessary, an examination of a forced crashdump may be needed.

A rare opportunity to work with VMS again!!

Good stuff.

DS10L AlphaServer CPU Fan Failure

The answer is to get hold of a high-speed case fan. I used a Scythe s-flex 80mm which has a +/- 5% RPM of 2800. rearrange the pins or use a choc-block such that yellow -> black, red -> yellow, black -> red. Hey presto.
Works for me.
