I had a similar problem and I had to "Delete Volume" when in DIsk Management. I then had a choice to "Create Simple Volume" which I did, and then a wizard created the correct partitions and assigned a drive letter to my external drive. Everything was them OK.
Have you got any drivers installed for Free Agent? If you have an older OS you will need to insert a system disc for the Drive, or else it won't recognise it.
First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine.
try it in different usb ports.
Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers.
then check.
Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
And remove upper filter and lower filter.Then restart computer then check.
Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer too then your harddrive has internal issue.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa
even tho you have AV software installed , I wouldn't write it off so easily. Download and run Malwarebytes from www.malwarebytes.org and you may be surprised how ineffective AV software can be some times.
try connecting your phone to a USB 2.0 port. Some older computers give this error. If you can find a newer laptop to try and plug it in it may recognize it. As far as a driver goes, with Windows XP or Vista you shouldn't need a driver disk at all. It is more like a compatibility issue than a software problem.
Hi there
hey if you are not getting it to recognizing the drive on system startup use your set up disk if you have it if not go to device manager and scan for hardware change and see if it can be found there if not try going into the bios and ensure that the usb ports are enabled and that the plug and play is enabled also you also need to ensure that the device is compatable with your pc i would check with the manufacture of the computer best regards mike
enter device manager by type devmgmt.msc,
select universal serial bus (USB), you can see what problem at USB,
right click to conflict port delete the port who's conflict. restart your computer.
