Check out this john deere manual. It has a section on pedal adjustments.

SOURCE: when I depress the forward
You didn't specify a brand or type but it sounds like a hydrostatic drive model and if so, it is 1 of 4 likely things
Drive belt from engine to transaxle slipping badly (replace the belt)
FWD-REV pedal linkage faulty
Transaxle is broken or has fluid issues (not user fixable)
by-pass rod (neutral lever/rod) is pulled out a bit. (push it in fully!)
SOURCE: I have a stanley HYDROSTATIC (no shift lever ,
I have several ideas, but I don't think you are going to like any of them. Fluid pressure in the forward flow is low. Possible causes: 1. Internal seal failure in the trans.
2. Trans fluid is low - has leaked out
3. Trans fluid is thin.
Any of these repairs require major transmission service or trans replacement. For the most part, Hydro transmissions are worry free. When they do have a problem, the recommended repair from Hydro is to replace the trans. They do not have a fill or drain plug, with the exception of having a vent, they are sealed. I have heard of people filling thru the vent, but not always with success and there is no way of knowing when it is full.
Sorry.
Testimonial: "Great , quick response , kinda figured this all along , keep up the good work we all need people like you ! Charlie"
SOURCE: My transcriber keeps going after
Does your transcriber have a digital display? If so, turn off indexing by holding down both stop and reset together for about 5 seconds. Also turn off the Auto Stop if on.
SOURCE: is there clutch adjustment difficult to select
sounds like your clutch worn and pressure plate needs renewing
there is a adjustment on the linkage i looks like a triangle shape block with a offset screw on the rear axle near where the rod meets the rear axle move it a little at a time
Hello on a BM-147 there is only one adjustment responsible
for auto back space when you used foot pedal and that adjustment is next to the Display is
call Reverse Time that controls the reverse function when you take foot control
off from play but if the problem is when you take the foot off on REW and unit
keeps going you have a bad foot pedal you can get a replacement at http://www.tvps.com/Products/ECS-Sony-IN-75-Heavy-Duty-Foot-Pedal---Pre-Owned__ECS-PIN-75.aspx
