A pair of jeans are stuck under agiater how do I remove the agiater
Just go look onto YouTube, with the brand and model of your machine. You'll find plenty of videos.
Usually there is a bolt or screw on top of the agitator, holding it down. Removing it allows to remove the agitator.
A brand would really help me answer your question, most machine have a bolt down the centre of the agitator undo that to remove it,if the round disc type which is called a pulsator the is a plastic cap in the centre remove with a screw driver bolt is under that you may need a couple of screw drivers under it to pop it up

NO,your transmission is probably ok!! Inside your top end of agitator are these 4 plastic parts called "dogs" they need to be replaced. To be 100% sure ,do this first,Fill upthe machine on small load and while its washing look to see if the bottom end of agitator is moving back and forth ,if it is replace the dogs.In some machines you have to change the upper part of agitator. If the agitator is not turning at the bottom than, remove the top of agitator cover so you can get a extended half inch socket in to it and pull the agitator up and check the transmission splines. If they are smooth and cannot grab the agitator than your trans, is bad.

If it will not spin either, you most likely have a broken drive coupler. This machine is "direct drive" and has no belt. As techs, we see this several times during our work week. Otherwise, if you have the "two piece" agitator, you may simply need new "dogs" in the agitator. if the machine spins fine, fill it only on the smallest load size with no clothes in it. When the agitate cycle starts, take note if the bottom section of the agitator is going back and forth. If it is, and the upper part does not "ratchet" then you just need to rebuild the agitator and that is an easy job.

could be the transmission or the drive motor to transmission coupling. You say the agitator doesn't work but it washes fine please clarify your problem.

The agitator on a Kenmore top loader can easily be removed by performing the following steps:
1. Remove the agitator center cap (or fabric softener dispener) by either pulling straight up or gently placing a flat blade screwdriver into a slot located in the cap.
2. If the agitator is equipped with an inner cap with a handle, remove this as well by pulling straight up.
3. Remove the center bolt of the agitator. You will have either a 7/16” hex bolt or a recessed square plastic nut. If you have the square recessed type, use a 3/8” to ½” ratchet adapter to remove.
4. Remove the agitator by grasping the bottom flange and carefully pulling straight up. Try to keep all the parts assembled while doing this, so do not pull too hard. This will make reassembly much easier.
If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.
First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Some washers use a 1/2" plastic nut to hold the agitator in place.
I've found that using a 1/2" extension for a socket set works very well.
