I can't tell which router is mine

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on thislink and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Can't access my linksys on my laptops although I can on my desktop.

Hi ottawakids,

I see that you are having issues accessing your Linksys using your Laptops.

> First Check if the router is detected on the Laptops.

>If the Router is detected and un accessible you ill need to check if there are security settings in the Linksys Router.

>Check if the Linksys has a Network key, or check if the Router MAC address Filtering is turned ON the Router this can also prevent your laptops from accessing the Router.

>If all elsa fails try resetting the Router to defaults and start from scratch maybe some settings are incorrect, setting it to default will fix the issue of the Router not being detected.

I hope this helps.

Have a nice day.

I just set up a new linksys wrt54g without a sim card. now my home phone wont work. but when i unplug the phone from the phone port my internet wont work? do i need a sim card for my home phone to work?

More information is needed about your setup.

Do you have:

cable modem <--> router <--> computer
and:
cable-telephone-box <---> telephone

or:

DSL-modem <--- VOIP adapter --> telephone
and VOIP adapter -> WAN port on WRT54G <--> computer

Please clarify.

Necessaty of sim card

If you will just use the router for internet via wireless there is no need for you to have a sim card. The sim card is use for the telephone feature on the router, you will be charge based from the providers rates.

Cannot get online with Wireless G WRT54G router. Can get online by pressing Cisco Systems button but only temporarily.

Do U see the router signal on the wireless network connection search?
Sometimes the linksys systems cd does not want to work on some pc's. try using the control panel - add/remove programs and uninstall all programs for the linksys. Then goto the control panel - system - hardware and uninstall the linksys card. Leave the actual card installed and reboot. After it detects your card use the linksys cd to load only the driver.
In the properties of the wireless connection, let windows manage it.
The above is based upon the factory defaults of the router. Any keys to access the router would have to be used on the pc.

Firmware

Here's the Linksys step-by-step guide for your router:

Are you connected to the wireless router with an ethernet cable? Generally, you want to hook it up this way first so you can configure it. If you are hooked up with a cable open your web browser and type in the following address: 192.168.1.1 this should get you to the router's web page. The default login for linksys is username: blank, password: admin

See if you can connect to the router in this way. If you can then we can go through the next steps or you can try using the above link.

Good luck.
