Probably a blockage in the base where the hose switches when you stand the device upright.

The roller stops as soon as machine turns on, then air leaks with poor suction. How do I fix it?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC39 Multi Floor, but from what you've described it sounds like your machine may have a blockage in the floor tool, wand, hose or inlet duct. This is simple to resolve by following each of the steps shown in our video guide:

My dyson dc 33 doesn't have any suction at the bottom. I washed the filters and checked the hoses. But I suspect it is because I can't get the hand wand to turn off. It runs whenever I turn on the

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC33. When the vacuum is switched on and standing upright, suction will always be diverted automatically to the wand and hose for above-floor cleaning. When you recline the machine into the normal vacuuming position, the suction should be transferred to the cleaner head. Make sure the brush control is set to 'Carpets', as the brush bar will not rotate when it's set to the 'Hard Floors' position.

If it doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be, we'd appreciate the opportunity to talk you through some simple troubleshooting checks when you have your machine to hand. We'll be able to ensure everything is working correctly - and if a replacement part or repair is needed, we can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). We'll look forward to speaking with you.

How do I restore airflow through floor intake?

Hi Alan, it's Jack at Dyson.

Thanks for the comprehensive information on the issue you're having with your DC25. It sounds very unusual, because if you're getting strong suction through the airway you've labeled in your photograph, there should be nothing stopping the airflow reaching the cleaner head.

It's very important to understand that in order to work effectively, the cleaner head's soleplate must form a close seal with the floor surface. I'm not sure how you're testing suction through the cleaner head, but just placing a hand underneath the soleplate is not an effective way of testing the suction as the soleplate will not be sealed. Therefore the level of suction will feel very different, compared to placing a hand right over the end of the hose.

From what you've described it does sound like your vacuum is working as normal. However for additional assistance, please my colleagues at the Dyson US Support team at [email protected] - if you can include your serial number and full contact details, we'll be in touch as soon as possible.

Hi my dyson dc18 has great suction from wand but when you got to use the vac for floors little suction but wand still got suction even while vacuming floors is it suposed to stop suction from wand

My Dyson dc18 had the same symptoms. The wand worked well and the floor bar had no suction. After removing pieces & shoving my fingers into the machine (no blockage) I found the suction pipe rotates between two positions (floor and wand). It looks like a piece of plastic broke on the outside housing, so it no longer rotates positions when the wheels are raised or lowered. My son found we can move the suction by sliding a finger into the mechanism behind the wheel cover, and rotating the plastic piece clock-wise or counter clock-wise until it locks into position. It's a big pain but it works for now. I wish I could find a replacement piece online. Patty

My Dyson dc 18 slim extender wand has NO suction. There is a plastic white cylinder object blocking.

If the floor head has suction and the wand does not, or vice-versa, the white cylinder you are referring to diverts the suction between the floor head and wand. If the flimsy plastic switch used to turn the cylinder is broken, you may need a new under carriage or just set the cylinder to wand or floor manually and use it as a one dimension cleaner. Depending on your ability, perhaps the switch can be purchases and replaced by a DIYer, but the job looks moderately difficult.

A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

There is likely a blockage in the pipe. Try pushing something through taking care not to perforate the pipe.
