You an do hat, but it will work. There is no phono input on unit.You can buy a stand alone phono preamp and raise to line level, and use line input.

Are you using the phono input on the Sony? If so, you're getting too much gain, you've already got a phono pre amp in the Behringer. Try using the tape or C.D. input. That should solve it.

Probably the power amp has arced and popped a lot of components.
When teh amps go usually the final pwer transistors, their drivers and sometimes even the power supply gets zapped.
Check the output of the preamp at the inserts for the final amp with headphones to see if anything is coming through.
