If you have changed the battery in your chirping smoke detector and it still chirps, you might think your detector is bad. ... With the battery removed, press and hold the test button for 15-20 seconds. Replace the new battery in the detector and plug in the power supply. Restore power to the circuit breaker.

Ours keeps chirping even after we replaced the battery. I'm not sure how to fix it.

We are going to try and clean it but if it keeps doing it after that then I guess it means it needs to be replaced, right?

SOURCE: Smoke alarm keeps bleeping

Hi,

Here are the steps:
Was this always like this? If not, change the batteries, clean it up. Consult the local fire dept. The help for free.

If that does not work, you will need to get it serviced/repaired.

Cheers

HOW DO I REPLACE BATTERY ON FIREX FX1218

BATTERY REPLACEMENT Always turn off power to smoke alarm before replacing battery.
Replace battery at least once a year, or immediately when the low
battery signal sounds (a beep once per minute indicates low bat-
tery). Batteries should be replaced regularly as necessary, even
when the smoke alarm is receiving AC power.
Use only the following batteries as replacements in this smoke alarm: Eveready 216, 522, 1222, Duracell MN 1604, or Ultralife U9VL-J [Alkaline batteries 9Volt] DO NOT USE RECHARGEABLE
BATTERIES.

1. Turn off power to smoke alarm at main service panel.
2. Turn smoke alarm counter-clockwise to detach from mounting plate.
3. Gently pull down smoke alarm. Be careful not to separate wire
connections.
4. Pull out power plug from back of smoke alarm.
5. From back of smoke alarm, lift tab to open battery pocket door.
6. Remove battery from pocket. Disconnect and discard bad battery from battery connector.
7. Connect a fresh, 9-volt battery to connector. The battery will fit
only one way. Be sure battery connector is securely attached to
battery terminals.
8. Place battery into battery pocket.
9. Close battery pocket door. Push down until it snaps into place.
10. Replace connector plug. Connector will "snap" into place.
Gently tug connector to be sure it is attached properly.
11. Reattach smoke alarm to mounting plate by turning smoke
alarm clockwise until it snaps into plate.
12. Turn on power and test smoke alarm using Push-to-Test button

Why does my smoke alarms not all go off when I push test button?

I am assuming that your detectors are interconnected to all sound at the same time.
Pushing the test button is not the same electrically as an alarm activation.
The Kiddie manual does not mention the sequence of operations when the test button is pressed. You may want to contact Kiddie to find out if this is ok.
You can also test your detector with smoke to see if they all sound like they are supposed to.

Why does My alarm still beep after battery is replaced

Could be a bad or used battery. ry replacing it with one that you tested to make sure it has 9V. Also make sure the activator arm that's held in place by the battery body is properly seated and not broken off. If all is OK, and still not working replace the unit.

My alarm is testing multiple times a day

Check that the battery is installed the right way around. Most smoke alarms can only be tested manually (by pushing the button). If you are hearing a single beep every 50 or 60 seconds then this is the low battery indicator and this will sound if the battery is inserted the wrong way around. If the siren is actually sounding continually then your smoke alarm might be clogged with dust or other foreign matter. All smoke alarms should be replaced every 5 to 7 years as the components in them only have a limited life span.
