Any F messages on the machine indicates that the machine is malfunctioning. You will have to take it to a dealer to have it fixed usually.

SOURCE: Instrucitnos for Brother SE-270D Timing Problem

This is not really something you can do yourself (been there, tried that!). The machine has to be almost completely disassembled to get to the timing mechanism. Trust me, it's worth the 30.00 to have it timed.
I think http://www.allbrands.com has a generic timing explaination for sewing machines (use the drop in bobbin one)...I found it easy to follow...but once I realized I had to unplug all the components for the computerized functions... I took it in to the dealer. If you contact Brother & your machine is under warranty, they will pay for the repair (they paid for my first two re-timings). Now I know you HAVE to use BOBBIN thread that is 60 WT only in the bobbin. You will continue to have problems if you don't. Also, this machine uses the class 15 bobbin, but make sure its model number SA156A, which is a hair taller than the SA156 bobbin..both are class 15, but the tiny difference is very important.

SOURCE: Error message on Brother SE-270D sewing machine

The safety device will activate if the machine has a bind or is unable to run at correct speed. If you turn the handwheel is it tight/hard to turn? if it is than thats it. Now what is binding the machine has to be diagnosed.

SOURCE: My white thread from bobbin shows thru embroidery

flip your bobbin

when I hold my bobbib in my right hand and pull the thread with my left hand the bobbin spins counter clockwise, this is how i put it in the machine

Do you wind your own bobbins if so make sure you wind evenly

I order a box of 100 pre wound bobbins from Brother

SOURCE: "Lower presser foot" error on SE 270D

This happened to me and I eventually realized that there is a small door flap at the top near the "4" in the threading series that can get stuck open. Normally this flap goes up and down with the presser foot, but if it gets stuck open even when the presser foot is down, tapping it or closing it manually will make the error go away.1_9_2012_12_19_55_am.jpg

My dog ran past the foot controller and jerked the cord out. Now it reads an error F04 Foot controller breaker. I have tried a different foot controller and still shows the error. Can I fix this?

The error message F04 Foot Controller Breaker likely indicates that the foot controller has shorted out or is no longer functioning properly. Depending on the device you are using, it may be possible to repair it yourself, but in many cases, you will need to send it to the manufacturer for repair or replacement.
If you have tried using a different foot controller and are still seeing the error message, it is possible that the problem is with the device itself, rather than the foot controller. You may want to check the wiring and connections for any visible damage, and make sure that all cables are properly connected and secure.
If you are unable to resolve the issue yourself, it may be best to contact the manufacturer for further assistance. They may be able to provide additional troubleshooting steps or information on how to obtain a repair or replacement.

I have a Brother SE 400 that needs a new speed control (not foot controller)

I would have thought the maker could supply parts for everything they have sold. Contact them direct. Make sure your repair shop is an authorised service centre.

Brother NX-400. Never used. Error F04. I've looked for a model # for the foot for NX-400 to no avail. The foot that came in the box is Model T/FC-322. I can't help but think this is the wrong foot.

If you mean the foot controller, then the T/FC-322 is a substitute that should work. It's listed as a replacement here: http://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/234522001.php . The manual for the NX400 gives the foot controller as XC1154-051 . Brother changes the part number often but the wiring remains the same. Another substitute controller is available here: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/foot-control-w-cord-brother-xc6651121.aspx .

The F04 message may mean there is an internal failure. This probably needs to be fixed by a Brother authorized repair person.

I wish that I had better news for you.

My machine shows FO4 message and none of the buttons are working for this message.

There are 2 things that cause the F04 error.
1 - Wrong foot control: If you have 2 machines, you might have them mixed up between machines.
2 - Burned out foot control.

Bring the machine to a Brother shop; try the new foot control on your machine before you buy it.

The part number is XC7290051
Alternative Part Numbers Include XC6651321, XC6651221, XC6651121, XA3931051, XC1154051 & XC6651051

Presser foot lever

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls try a reset. This could be accomplish by unplugging the SE-270D from the mains. After an extended period, plug back in and power on normally. In some variations, there would be a reset button/key/switch.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Fo4--What does it mean and where do I find the translations?

F04 is foot control error. It is probably a bad foot control, but it may be the plug in on the machine or a circuit board.

You can run the machine without a foot control for now; just unplug the foot control from the machine and use the Start/Stop button like you would when embroidering.

Before replacing the foot control, you should bring the machine to a Brother shop and try a new control. If the new one works, then the control was the problem.
