I have a McClulloch Pro Mac 610 chain saw. When applying power to the saw the chain tension increases to the point where the engine will stall. I've cleaned the entire chain housing area to include the bar tension screw and the bar. After adjusting chain tension and no matter how tight I tighten the bar retension nuts the problem persists. The sprocket teeth have very slight indentations in them from where the chain meets them which to me looks like normal wear and tear. Even after cutting the power to the saw the tension remains leading me to believe the bar is moving forward.
If you've already tried to tighten the bar tensioning nuts and the bar keeps "creeping" and gets tighter, that is unusual, as most times the bar should get looser, not tighter.
I would suggest you try a new bar and set of tension nuts, or at the very least a new set of tension nuts first.
The problem might be the tip sprocket has worn out (it needs to be lubed every time you add bar & chain oil to the reservoir in the chainsaw). If the tip sprocket is worn badly, you should replace the bar and inspect the cutting chain for excessive wear on drive side of the chain.
Remember that the slightest bit of dirt can cause rapid wear of the bar and chain and quickly ruin it beyond repair.
I hope you find this helpful and best regards!
