I have a GE Potscrubber 900 dishwasher, installed about 1987. The dial to start the dishwasher isn't working properly. If the stop//start is at 12:00, when I start it, the dial stops at about 2:00.

It does appear to have run full wash and drying cycle, but the dial doesn't move. To start it again, I have to force it around the circle and it feels like it might break off. Yikes! What to do?

Likely timer has failed. Don't know if repairing a 30+ yr dishwasher makes sense, economics wise.

SOURCE: HOTPOINT DISHWASHER FDW60

Hi,

I have just had my dishwasher fixed by Hotpoint, as the heater was working and the dishwasher only stopped with the fast and delicate lights just before the drying process he replaced the main control board. This has solved the problem, I suspected the fault to be the thermistor as the heater seemed to be getting to hot but I had no idea where it was.

It turns out the thermistor is attached to the main control board and hangs down behind the front door that gives just a rough temperature level for the main control board.

As it's soldered directly onto the control board I would suggest replacing the whole control pcb for anyone with this fault unless you can find any spec details for the thermistor.

SOURCE: GE Top load washing machine stop and stars during spin cycle

I had the same problem. The machine will do the washing cycle. At the start of the spin cycle it would start turning with a lot of clicking sounds and then would stop spinning. The water pump would continue working without problem. The motor tries to start again in about three minutes, however, repeats the same behavior. I have a reasonable mechanical and electrical knowledge. I was sure that the overload protection switch of the motor was tripping. I opened up my machine---a GE super capacity top loading machine. Took off the belt and turned the transmission pulley. It turned easily in both directions (washing and spinning). Hence, the transmission was good. Next, I checked any water accumulation in the spin tub. If the water is not drained properly before the spin cycle, it would overload the motor. There was no water clogged in the spin tub. Finally, I dismantled the electric motor. There was a clutch assembly underneath the motor pulley. I dismantled it and found the clutch very dirty with some grease that had turned sticky. I cleaned the assembly thoroughly with alcohol and assembled back the machine. The machine is running perfect after that. Conclusion: The clutch assembly was mis-functioning. Reason: When the spin cycle starts, the spin tub is very heavy and cannot achieve the full speed quickly. On the other hand, electric motors must get to their running speed fairly quickly or else overheating of motor would happen. A proper functioning clutch allows the motor to run at their optimal speed while transferring enough torque to the spin tub to slowly speed up the tub to its fullest. In my case, the clutch was sticky, thus overloading the motor which would trip as it overheats.

SOURCE: Loud Buzzing Sound from Dishwasher

have you ever seen green led "Clean" light flashing? before or about the same time the buzzing sound started? and if so that would indicate that the control senses a fault in the temperature rise during the heating cycle and that the electronic control could be reset by initiating a service diagnostic cycle.(which is what you were trying to do) pls reread your manual there are times during that sequence that some buttons have to be pushed at the same time and within a certain amount of time..possible that your machine also has a bad timer which would give you a buzzing noise..if thats the case I would recommend replacing the cpu or control board..or the machin all together..The Kenmore Ultra Wash Quiet Guard name is sears but whirpool has the contract to produce all "kenmore products.hope that helps.

SOURCE: Potscrubber 900 Dishwasher won't drain

HI. check the following areas for faults.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

Does the dishwasher fill with water, or is full and fails to drain?
Can you provide additional detail so that we may accurately troubleshoot? Also include the complete model number. It should be etched or stamped on a plate inside the door, or elsewhere on the washer.

I have a GE Potscrubber dishwasher that only hums, won't run

I have a portable that had the same problem. I called a repairman and he turned a fan blade on the motor. Mine is located on the right side about 12" in. It gets hung up when it is run often enough. If your problem is the same is mine all you have to do is turn the blade and it works like a charm. Hope this helps.
