There are many things that could be a problem besides a thermal fuse. Can you explain why you believe that is the issue? HAve you checked the ballast?

Authorized sony repair center told me the problem was the Q Box. Ever heard of this? Part runs about 300 bucks. TV is out of warrenty as it is 2 years old. Do you think it is worth it to fight sony and get them to replace the part or just fix the TV?

Part Number is A1167541A, service rep called it a Q Box in the diag, however the web says its the b block assmy.

read this if you think it's the same problem

Replace the lamp, sounds like a weak or old lamp. Use an original Sony, the replacement lamps are unreliable

I have a sony 50 inch Hdtv (KDF E50A10) the power/standby ligt is red and blanking 6 times. there is no picture or sound on from the TV. do you know what could be wrong with it. Thank you

One of two things:

Either door lamp sensor...

Or thermal fuse located above the bulb's housing.

This tv is known to not turn on for these two reasons.

The thermal fuse looks like this:

drewpalmer04_73.jpgThe door lamp sensor is located where the door comes in contact with the tv housing. You can't miss it!

Thank you and good luck!

KDF-E50A10 TURNS ON THEN FLASHES GREEN FOR ABOUT A MINUTE THEN KEEPS FLASHING RED .WHATS WRONG?

# of red flashes = error code.
3x = lamp door or lamp not fully inserted
4x = fan error
5x = lamp driver error
6x = power supply or thermal fuse blown

I have a KDF-E50A10 soyn tv and need to replace the lamp. can you yell me how and if it is located in fornt or back

Lamp compartment at right side of TV, there is plastic cover that can be removed by pressing its lock at top and you can see Lamp there.
Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual page-87 in details.
Click Sony Support if you need to download user manual copy of KDF-E50A10
Thanks.

Sony KDF E60A10 60 in. My TV starts up but then the green light switches red and blinks 6 times. No picture or sound. What is the issue

6 blinks mean a thermal fuse problem. This model had a problem with the thermal fuse that does not close once it is opened. This is caused by a blockage of the fan that cools the optical block, usually from accumulated household dust. This causes the TV to overheat. The thermal fuse detects this and puts the TV into protect to prevent further damage to the TV. To fix, the fans need to be cleaned and the thermal fuse needs to be replaced. The parts are not very expensive (around 20 dollars for the fuse) but it does usually takes a while to fix because the unit needs to be taken apart to have access to the fuse and optical block fan. The GT board might have been damaged for the excessive heat but most likely a new thermal fuse will fix the issue and clean fans will prevent it from happening from the future.

Sony KDF-E50A10 Shuts off and on every 1- 2 mintues

From what it seems in your question... the problem has already went away... However, I actually know about this. There is a fuse inside the tv near the power button called B-3a... If you replace that fuse it should help fix permanently

Sony KDF-E50A10 HDTV LCD TV now with the same problem as these guys. Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks for update,
Lamp replacement is not difficult in KDF-E50A10 and its written in user manual. You can download user manual copy by clicking Sony Support.

Your TV needs XL-2400 Lamp and it is available in Sony Accessories Store. (click and see)
I would recommend to buy Sony original lamp for this TV and avoid after market or compatible lamp.
Good luck.
