Inmost of the case, the problem is the LED strips.

To check it, the best way is use a LED tester, if you do not have one, you have to disassembly the LCD panel, unplug the cable between the power supply & the main board, apply the AC power to the TV, you will see the defective strips do not light up.

SOURCE: LED TV model Samsung un40f500 - top 1/3 of screen darker than the rest, and seems like the whole screen lost some brightness. Could it be a bad t-con board?

Go to the menu and see if that has normal brightness, if its dark as well I would look towards power supply that feeds the LED lamps,

SOURCE: how do I replace SMART TV SCREEN MODEL NO : LG 55LM7600 55'' 3D 1080p Full HD LED LCD Smart TV

You cannot replace a screen that big. The manufacturers wont ship it to you. IT has to be done by an authorized service center.

SOURCE: The power went out on My Samsung 60 inch series 6 led Smart TV UN60FH6200. How do I fix this? Do I replace the power supply board or is there possibly a fuse

Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

SOURCE: When testin a power supply or led board on tv do i test dc or ac with multimeter?

Your power supply board is working if you get audio and imgaes.

You test AC only the AC side of the transformer before the Rectifier Diodes. Everything after the Diodes will be in DC.

did you get to see any spec of backlight as shown in

Vizio 55 in V555-G1 LTCDYILW Top of screen is black

This model TV has what's called local dimming, on most brands LED lights are wired like christmas tree lights, take one bulb out the set is dead but on most Vizeo sets each strip has it's own power sourse, chances are some of the strips are bad and need replacing but if you replace one replace them all

Samsung UN60EH6003. Top 1/3 of picture is darker than the bottom. Bottom picture is great and sound is also good. Do I need a new mother board?

It's not going to be a main board issue, there is a slim possibility it could be the power board but a greater chance your LED backlights are bad in the top portion of the set

I have a black shadow that goes across the top of the TV screen. Any ideas?

Make sure there is nothing magnetic in the area.
Often speakers are placed around a tv which are not magnetically shielded causing the picture to distort.

An area across the top of the screen (approx 1/5th of screen height) is darker than the rest of the screen. I have a picture I can share if it would diagnose the problem.

Please share the picture.
Seems you have a vertical scan problems, which is usually caused by bad capacitors in the vertical output section.

If futher assistance is needed please leave comment

Faint Horizontal Line

Your problem could be a bad LCD screen, and beleive me will get worse with age. It could be a Driver IC is not putting out the proper drive for that matrix of TFT. If you have a warranty, stand by your guns as its not right, so call and have the servicer make it right. Good Luck PS please do not forget to rate this thread.
