My dryer is only about 3 years old. For several months now, it has been shutting off before the dry cycle is complete then the timer will just quickly go to the end. We restart it several times, choose a different drying cycle...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
If the venting is clogged this will happen. And that is a good thing because it is a safety measure built in to prevent fires. There is a thermostat that can tell when your dryer is over-heating,(usually caused by clogged venting by lint) and this devise tells the heating element to turn off so as not to create a fire. Clean out venting, inspect thermostats and element, replace if neccesary. You may only have to clean out the venting.
It sounds like the time has gone bad on you, you will have to replace it.

cutiepie, I've seen this many times on these dryers. You need to replace the door hinge. Not really a hard job to do. Post a model number (inside door) and we'll get you a part number...Catriver..post back.
