SOURCE: Is tanning on a tanning bed just like tanning outside in the sun?
No - it's
very different as outside, various objects block the direct rays of the sun and
allow you to be outside in the sun for a lot longer. Tanning beds are very
instense. You should not be on the bed for longer than 10-12 minutes for your
first sessions and be very careful about adding extra time.
SOURCE: Are tanning beds safer than tanning in the sun?
Although
tanning beds are more controlled than tanning outside in the sun, ultimately
all exposure to UV rays is potentially dangerous to the skin and can put you at
risk of skin cancer and premature aging.
For a safer way of tanning - look for sunless tanning products rather
than using tanning beds or laying on the beach for hours.

Yes - even though in theory tanning bulbs can last up to 1,000 hours, if they are not changed very regularly, they can seriously affect the quality of your tan. Bulbs should be replaced after 500 - 600 hours use.
