Orbital sander loss of power under load could it be brushes tks

I heard about such a problem and myself came across this several years ago. Power loss can occur due to an outdated electric motor or because of too high wear. In general, it’s quite difficult to find good and high-quality construction tools and even orbital sanders from brands such as Bosch and others can be very poor-quality and problematic. So when choosing tools, you need to carefully read the reviews. I personally chose the tools to make repairs at the cottage, for more than 2 weeks, because the reviews about different models were very contradictory. It helped me a lot, when I found power tool reviews. There is a list of the best orbital sanders and reviews about each model and this simplifies the choice. So it seems to me that it’s best for you not to waste time on repairs and find a new durable model.

My Bosch PEX400AE sander lost power under the slightest pressure. I changed everything electrica,l no improvement. It turned out the part of the disc assembly which thr pad bolts too was seized to the main rotating section. It should freely rotating. It was full of rubbish. I cut a junior hacksaw blade in half, bent the end 90 degrees and this removed the detritus, a bit of WD40 and as good as new. Other tips. To test the stator there should be no short from the lamiations to any of the connections. Coil resistance ~3-6 ohms. The rotor, place multimeter probes where the brushes connect onto the commutator. rotate manually, resistance should be 10-11 ohms. If so all is likely ok electrcally. Shame I spent £40 on a new controller & capacitor..

Yes or the armature may be worn where the brushes make contact.

SOURCE: need help disassembling Porter Cable random orbit sander

Go to Dewaltservicenet.com and in the center of the page under needing parts type in your tool model number it will take you to another page and scroll down to the type 1 or 2 and click on it. It will bring up an exploded view of this tool. Why do you think that you need brushes? usually I have to replace the bearings and the brushes are pretty durable. Let me know if I can help further

The armature windings have an overlay problem in the wiring causing this and there is no soluation except to replace the armature which is not cost efective unless you are still under Warrantee and get a free replacement, it will burn up at some point. If you bought it within the last month take it back and get a new one, over one month, pack it back up in the original box and send it to address in the owners manual for repair or replacement service addresses.

SOURCE: i have a porter cable 7800 sander, when i turned

The best way to sand drywall is to use a pole sander (manually). You can pick them up for about $20.

This particular machine tends to leave grooves in the drywall compound if you are not familiar with how to use it.

If you should have any questions about "Drywall Finishing/Patching", or know someone who does, put your questions to Category:"Tools- Building & Power- HAND TOOLS" at FixYa.com

Going slow,then stopped

You may want to try blowing compressed air through the ventilation slots on either side of the motor to remove any built up dust particles . You may also consider replacing brushes .

It spins out of control if I don't keep it under load.

Im not sure what you mean "out of control" but the tool is only meant to be on while in use . If the tool is really going crazy ,pull off orbital and check all screws and tighten accordingly

CLEANING SANDER BUSHINGS

It's usually not the brushes but the commutator that needs cleaned. The commutator is the surface the brushes ride on. Go to Walgreens and buy a multi-surface nail file, one of the soft ones that are about 3/4" square with different colors for different grits. Don't start at the coarse grit!! Start at the medium grit and lightly drag it over each section in a smooth arcing motion, when the commutator surface is shiny it's clean, then replace the brushes with new ones.

Orbital sander

You should really take it back to place of purchase and get it replaced/fixed under waranty. If you try anything other than checking the fuse you will invalidate the warranty. Most manufacturers allow retailers to replace faulty tools within seven days of purchase. Be sure to take your receipt with you as a copy will be needed for the shops warranty claim.
