I purchased a new computer and have not accessed my alternate email account for several months. When I enter the email address it doesn't show up. How do I find it.

Clear your Web browser's cookies and then restart your browser.
Enter your Web browser's "Options" utility and delete all cookies, then restart your browser, then try to load Hotmail again.
Cookies are files that store information on your computer.
Your Web browser constantly refers to the information as it loads websites.
If an error has been stored in a cookie, it is possible that this could prevent you from being able to log into Hotmail.
Go directly to the Windows Live website.
Though Hotmail addresses and the service itself still exists, Hotmail has existed under the "Windows Live" banner of products since 2007 with the release of Windows Vista.
If you're attempting to load Hotmail through Hotmail.com, your browser may be having a hard time redirecting you to the new site.
Go to the Windows Live website (see Below) directly and try to log in there.

Type your user name correctly. To log into your Hotmail account you are going to need to type your full user name followed by "@hotmail.com" into the "Windows Live ID" box on the site.
If you leave out the "@hotmail.com" part of your email address, Windows Live will be unable to log you into your Windows Live inbox.
Type your password correctly.
Hotmail account passwords are case sensitive, which means that capital letters are considered different from lowercase letters.
Make sure all letters that should be capitalized in your password are (and those that shouldn't be capitalized aren't), and then click "Sign In" to try to access your Hotmail account again.

How to move contacts and folders from old hotmail account to new hotmail account

Hotmail is a free online email service provided by MSN. Hotmail users can create contact lists in their email accounts, which allows them quick access to the contact information of their friends, families and co-workers. The contact lists can be easily changed, contacts can be added or deleted, information can be updated and certain contacts can be designated as favorites. Contact favorites are listed on the inbox menu for easy accessibility when composing emails or instant messaging.

Log into your Hotmail account using your Windows Live ID. This will open your Hotmail inbox. Click on "Contacts List" in the left-hand menu. Click "New" to add a contact to your list. Type in the contact's name, nickname, address, business information and phone number. You can also add other information, such as a person's birthday and personal notes. Click "Save." Your contact list will be immediately updated with the new contact's information. Delete a contact by checking the box next to his name. Click "Delete." Click "OK" to confirm that you wish to delete this contact. b> How to Change Hotmail Contact Information b> Log into your Hotmail account using your Windows Live ID. This will open your Hotmail inbox. Click on "Contacts List" in the left-hand menu. Check the box next to the contact whose information you wish to change. Click "Edit." Modify the contact information. Click "Save" to update the contact's listing. b> How to Create or Delete Hotmail Contact Favorites b> Log into your Hotmail account using your Windows Live ID. This will open your Hotmail inbox. Click on "Contacts List" in the left-hand menu. Check the box next to the contact that you would like to make a favorite. Click "Categories" from the top toolbar. Pick "Favorites" from the drop-down menu. The contact has now been added to the Hotmail favorites list. Delete a contact from the favorites list by clicking on "Favorites" in the left-hand menu. Click the highlighted star in the contact's information box. The contact is removed from the favorites list. Hope this helps.

Probable solutions to Hotmail email access problems

  • Verify the internet connection - Is it indeed working? Try loading other web sites like Yahoo.com.
  • Delete the temporary internet files / cache of the browser. You can do this through the tools and settings section.
  • Change the HTTP settings - please refer Hotmail sign in problem for details.
  • Use a different browser - I suggest downloading and installing Google Chrome.
  • Your account may be blocked. Hotmail suspects you may be using the account to send spam and hence disables access to it. Please contact the Hotmail support staff or wait for a day and check again.
  • If you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista, download and install Windows Live Mail email program - please refer that link for step by step instructions. You then need to set up your Hotmail account - for screenshots and walkthrough read Windows Live Mail settings for Hotmail accounts.
This is a lengthy process, no doubts; but has many advantages. You maintain a copy of the emails on your local computer which protects against accidental online deletions and account hacking and you can access your emails even without an active internet connection.
