SOURCE: portable air compressor wont turn on
1st check for power at the pressure switch. Take the cover of the switch and make sure you have line voltage at the terminals from the wall outlet.
if no voltage>replace cord or plug end with proper gauge wire.
If voltage, then, while you have the cover off of the switch **Make sure it is not plugged in** and operate the on off switch and visually check the operation of the switch. You should see some flat copper terminals that, when the switch is turned on, kinda rotate and drop onto some other copper terminals. The connection is kinda like points on a old car ignition, little pads on each copper thingie contact each other. I have seen these little pads become pitted and burnt from arcing. Try to clean these with a small file or pick if they are corroded. Get some electrical contact cleaner and clean the switch completely, *it is not only electrical, but is also mechanical*. Switches will intermittantly work, replace the whole pressure switch if there is heavy wear, charring or working intermittantly.
If this is all good, check the wires coming out of the switch for power to the motor, replace if necessary. If this is ok..
You probably have a bad motor. I have not had much success in revitalizing motors, its usually better to just replace it.

Look for a reset circuit breaker button on or near the compressor motor. It might be black in color.
SOURCE: Craftsman air compressor 1 HP 12 gal 125 psi
this is probably an "oilless" compressor, it has "piston" with a thin ring of leatherlike material acting as a piston ring, the "cylinder" is an aluminum sleeve - what usually happens is the cylinder gets scratched from dirt or just wear or the leather ring deteriorates, that's why it will go only so far - the only fix for this is to replace the cylinder and the piston
SOURCE: Compressor tank will not fill with air
piston rings gone valves stuck inside nonreturn valve jammed the pipe coming from the pump unit into the tank before it goes into the tank it goes to a gold valve you need to take this out and check the rubber and spring if the seem ok turn it around and put back in then get back to me buddy
SOURCE: what kind of oil do i need for a craftman 1 hp 3
For warm climate, use 30wt non detergent oil (lowest price $3). Med priced oil ($5), use compessor oil sold at Lowes or any major center store including Wal Mart. Compressor oil is special blend for higher temperature range (continuous use). High price oil, synthetic compressor oil works for heavy duty use under severe conditions (also sold at major lumber centers, cost about $8~18).
For lite duty, any oil that you have handy will work fine (check oil before every use). Good luck

You can only source these parts VIA Harbor Freight. They don't like selling you parts to fix your stuff.
They want you to buy the extended service warranty or throw it away and buy a new one.
Look up the "right to repair" bill in your area and contact your congressman and legislation to support this bill.
