SOURCE: Pilot light lit but no heat

the pilot's millivolt generator may be at fault.  if you have a meter that is capable of measuring a very small DC voltage, connect it up to the very end of the thermocouple and the copper cappillary. the thermocouple has a welded bead at the very end inside that generates a small DC voltage. Same principle of a J-K thermocouple. Iron constintan  - two dissimiller metals where joined together produce a voltage when heated.  the thermocouple actuates a millivolt electromagnet inside the valve to keep the valve pellet open.  no voltage there it won't actuate the electromagnet.

SOURCE: Comfort Glow Vent-free Gas Heater CGN18B

Check with Ebay seller s.a.w.inc for available thermocouples. If that doesn't solve the problem the valve unit will likely need replaced.

SOURCE: Pilot on logs won't stay lit

Hold pilot button longer. if this doesn't work your Thermopile has gone bad and will not generate enough Millivolts to keep gas valve pilot open. A new thermopile will generate 750 millivolts. It cost less than $20 dollars but is difficult to replace. You should call a certified technician. They will charge you about $100.00

Reliance 606 natural gas water heater - model #640YORT - water does not stay hot. pilot has to be clicked to heat and then u can use hot water til tank empty and it will not continue to heat water.

If I understand correctly, the pilot light is not staying lit.
You light the pilot and water in the tank reaches temperature.
Once hot water is gone, then pilot light has to be lit again.

Gas pressure is good, and gas is flowing.
Thermostat is working at high end because it cuts off heating.
Vent is working because tank heats up.
Air intake is working.

Gas control thermostat might not be reading low temperature. Replace gas control valve.
Pilot tube might be dirty. Clean burner parts and combustion chamber, and air intake, and vent.
Backdraft might be blowing out pilot. Check for constant updraft by running water heater 5 minutes, and then light match under vent hood and see if smoke goes up.
Very hot air can put out pilot, especially when water heater located in attic. Add ventilation.
Improper vent might have water dripping back down into combustion chamber and putting out pilot light and rusting out the parts. Inspect for rusted parts and water.

Initial problem was that fire was taking long time to light, no spark being generated intermittently. Now Gas fire seems to be going off on its own when it has been on for a while. Fire is the hole in the...

First, have you changed the battery in the ignition system? If you haven't this could be causing your ignition problem. In addition, the Thermocouple may need to be replaced to solve the problem of the burner flames going of on their own. That's assuming the pilot light is also going out when the burners go out. It would also be wise to check the vent pipe to make sure it's not obstructed in any way. As this also, could cause the flames to go out. Because there is a Safety Overload Switch, that automatically shuts the burner off is there is a gas and heat buildup/backup in the firebox.

As far as replacing the Thermocouple is concerned, this unit uses the same type of stand-alone Thermocouple, as the older DESA Vent-free gas log sets and fireplaces used. It's held in place with a saddle strap mounting and is fairly easy to replace.

These fireplaces are made in the UK and therefore, are more complicated to install, diagnose a problem and then solve it, than those made in the U.S.

Hope this has helped get you headed in the right direction.

Too much gas pressure. Are you sure that this is a LP heater and not a Natural gas heater? Is the regulator you have rated under 1/2 pound pressure? Try to throttle down the shutoff on the tank to see if pilot gets better. If so, you have a pressure issue. Gas you adjust the pilot gas valve?
