SOURCE: Lower spray arm does not spin on my bosch dishwasher

The quality/quantity of responses you get here on FixYa can greatly vary for WHEN you place your question.

There are a handfull of "experts" who use fixya that simply have a generic cut and paste answer for every question asked on FixYa.

"Final Answer" is one.

Many have little to no english skills, and resort to cutting and pasting the same answer to every question.

I apologize for their ignorance and im sure your post will soon be answered by knowledgeable QUALIFIED personnel.

Real answers are not automated here - I assure you. Give it a little time for our experts in the US to wake up and get coffee into their system.

We are not employed by FixYa - sitting in a little cubicle waiting to answer questions. Most of FixYa experts do this in their spare time between real service calls.

Be assured that if you are not satisfied - it is easy to request a refund. Please email [email protected] if in the next day or so you have not gotten a fix to your problem.

Now that's out of my system I can try to help troubleshoot your problem.

Bosch dishwashers use a water system called FLOW CONTROL... which utilizes a valving system to control which arm gets water during the cycles.

Most washers see water at both arms all the time. Yours is controled with a PLC and uses information gathered from onboard sensors to tell the valves to open or close.

Your Lower sprayarm valve is faulty, or the controller board is bad.

Since we do not know your mechanical/troubleshooting skillset - all we can do is offer advice and try and help you if you feel this is a problem you would rather attempt to tackle yourself.

I have searched BOSCH website and could not find your model washer in their documentation. Please double check that it is SHV55M03GB/40 that you posted.

Neither the upper or lower wash arms spin.

Circulation pump might be faulty. or spray arms are blocked. remove spray arms and clean them and try it again.

Leaking from motor

Water Inlet Valve

If the dishwasher is leaking water the water inlet valve might be defective. If the water inlet valve sticks open, it will allow water to fill the dishwasher continuously. Some customers report that they see clean water filling the bottom of the dishwasher after it's been sitting all night or for a couple of days. If this happens, turn off the water that is supplying the dishwasher. This is normally a valve under the kitchen sink. Then, replace the water inlet valve, it cannot be repaired. The water valve needs at least 20 lbs pressure to shut off properly. If your water pressure is to low replacing the valve may not solve the problem.

Center Wash Arm Assembly

If the dishwasher is leaking water, the center wash arm assembly might be cracked or split. This can allow a jet of water to spray toward the door seal, causing a leak. If a crack or split in the center wash arm assembly is found, replace it. There isn't any glue that will hold the part together inside the dishwasher.

Lower Wash Arm Assembly

If the dishwasher is leaking water the lower wash arm assembly might be defective. If the lower wash arm has a crack or split on the end, it can force water to spray directly toward the lower part of the dishwasher door. Then, the water can be forced under the door and onto the floor. Check the lower wash arm for any cracks or splits and replace it if necessary. Also make sure the screws are tight in the wash arm support. If the screws are loose, water can spray out the side of the pump and cause a leak.

Upper Wash Arm Assembly

If the upper wash arm assembly is broken or cracked it can cause water to spray very forcefully toward the seams of the door, causing a leak.

Door Seal

Every dishwasher door has a door seal. If the dishwasher is leaking water, it might be that the door seal is defective or worn out. Try closing the dishwasher door on a dollar bill and see if the door seal is making good contact all the way around the door. If not, replace the door seal. If the door seal is good or has been replaced and there is still a leak check the door hinges. If the hinges are bent the door will not close properly and the hinges will need to be replaced.

Dishwasher Door Gasket

Every dishwasher door has a door seal. If the dishwasher is leaking water, it might be that the door seal is defective or worn out. Try closing the dishwasher door on a dollar bill and see if the door seal is making good contact all the way around the door. If not, replace the door seal.

I removed the lower spray arm on my kitchenaid dishwasher and cant get it to screw back in. Is there a trick to doing it? The arm was the only part I removed

My lower spray is connected by a large plastic screw type piece. Do you have that part? The arm itself just sits loosely on the base and the "screw" is needed to secure it. The arm itself does not screw on. If you lost that part, I don't know how you would secure the arm.

I cannot get the lower spray arm back on. How do you do it?

There is a little plastic thumbscrew- wing nut thing in the center of the spray arm. This meets with a female coupler that sits inside the plastic arm assembly that gets bolted to the floor of the dishwasher. Maybe you forgot to put this part back right or maybe it's not seated correctly? If that female part is there, the lower spray arm just screws down from above.

KitchenAid Dishwasher (model KUDS01IJBL) has black gunk inside

That black gunk is caused by soap deposits and food particles that do not get washed down the drain. This all collects in the area around the door gasket and front of the wash tub and forms a sticky black sludge. You need to periodically clean the interior of the dishwasher out with a non-abrasive cleaner with some bleach in it to kill bacteria. You should also check the wash pump sump (located under the lower spray arm) to make sure it is not being clogged with food and debris. In order to access the pump sump, you will need to perform the following:

1. Remove the lower wash rack and lower spray arm.

2. Remove the upper wash rack and spray arm.

3. Locate the screws holding in the upper spray feed tube. Remove the screws to the feed tube and turn the whole assembly 1/4 turn to the right (CW direction). The entire assembly will unlock from the wash pump assembly and lift out.

4. Remove the strainer assembly (known as an accumulator) that covers the pump sump area.

Inspect the sump area for food particles and debris that may be contributing to the mess inside the wash tub. If you need some guidance, pcappliancerepair.com has some very helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you.

If you have any questions, or require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.
