Make sure the needle is not bent and fully inserted per machine instructions. Clean shuttle area and feed dogs. Look for fabric debris and/or needle fragments. Oil the two locations shown in illustration (4) with 1 drop each of high quality gun (firearm) or sewing machine oil.

I have a singer white model 979...everytime I sew stretch fabrics and satin it seems that either my material sort of scruntches or it stretches after I sew the hem. what am I doing wrong and how do I do...

Do you have a walking foot attachment? Also, called an evenfeed foot. You can also try using tissure paper under your fabric as you sew for a quick fix.

White Sewing Machine 979

I'm sorry I don't know this model, but will try to help you.

Are the buttons still functioning - or is one deffinately seeming broken?

Try selecting other functions and see if there is any life at all.

If there is no life in it whatever, remove the fuse (test it) and replace.

If still nothing, There is an electrical fault either in the foot pedal, or motor.

These can be tested with a meter to determine the fault.
Repair of the motor or footpedal (dependent on tests) may be required - usually the motor.

Hope this helps - if so, rate as fixya!
If not, I'll try and Identify the fault.

Thank you for using Fixya!
