I have a John Deere D125 lawn tractor that the blades are not engaging properly. If the deck is raised the blades spin as they should.

When I lower the deck the further down it goes the less the blades spin until they stop. I have noticed the deck goes forward slightly as I lower it. The belt is new and ran correctly and the deck is attached correctly. What is causing said problem?

Your adjusting levers are not working properly. The front and back should be level. Make sure that the rear adjusters are not blocked by debris.

If it has a clutch, that would be the problem. An electric clutch will kick on and off when it is hot if it is bad.

SOURCE: have a john deere lawn tractor. Blade will not

Check both belts on deck. Check if the clutch is clicking in. If not it will most likely need a new pto switch.

SOURCE: Electric Clutch want engage the mower deck on my l120 john deere

They wear out. How old is the mower? Mine just gave out this week in the peak of hay season. (my grass) The wire can be unhooked from the PTO clutch and a 12 volt jumper can test it, if it jumps, it is good, if not, it is shorted out, they are expensive, I found 3 of them all the wrong size for mine. Try to find the same one. Ebay has a couple on there right now. Check it out.

What difference is there between John Deere 125 and D125 lawn tractors?

date of mfg

125 2006

D125 2013 - 2017

Engine HP, deck width, tire size, hydro drive... all same/similar. Likely insignificant design changes (non interchangeable parts).
These are intended for small suburban <2 ac.

Where is the safety switch to engage the blade

Your lawn tractor will have a lever that raises and lowers the mower deck which houses the two cutting blades. By lowering your mower deck to the desired cutting height, the blades should automatically engage. By raising the deck back to it's highest position, the blades will automatically disengage. Should be simple enough. You can consult your mower manual. If you don't have one, you can easily find it online using the make, model and year of the lawn tractor.

I just bought an old John Deere 68 riding mower but it does not cut grass even though the blade spins when engaged. I made sure the blade was on correctly but it still doesn't cut. I noticed the pulley...

Are you sure it is the correct blade and when it is turning the sharp edge is on the leading side? A spinning blade will cut grass even if the blade is dull. Did you lower the deck to the correct level?

I have a john deere lawn tractor, 125. i broke the cable that engages the blades, i bought a new one, but cant see where the spring hooks up, above the deck?

Above the deck and from left side you go across deck the the idler arm that has the flat side of belt going around pulley. About halfway across arm there is a small hole that spring hooks to.

On John Deere lawn tractor when we pull the yellow button up to engage the blades to start spinning, they dont move.

If you have an electric pto switch, the switch, connecting wire from the switch to the pto clutch, or the clutch itself could be defective. You can check the switch and wire with an ohm meter. You can also check for proper voltage at the pto clutch plug.

John deere mower won't engage

on the engine there is a shaft with 2 pullys ,drive belt goes to the top closet to the engine lower pully is for the deck
there also is a saftey switch located on the deck which should shut down blade operation when raised. check the mandrels for broken bearings by grabbing the pully and wiggle them back and forth looking for movement could be possible that one madrel is shot giving you that bad sound which is crushed bearings
