One thing it could be is that the water solenoid not closing completely. Water drips from fill tube into icemaker and freezes, not allowing any water to get through. This is fairly common and with a couple of tools, you might be able to fix it yourself if you're handy. Could be other causes too, this is the one i'm familiar with.
UPDATE> If the water filler tube that empties into the tray is frozen solid, then it;s probably the water solenoid (not shutting off).. And you want to avoid cycling the system (the heating element coming on) without water in the tray. That's what i saw in a video. Hope that helps.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the reply. How could I verify if its the water solenoid? this weekend I'm going to try the short two pins with a jumper test to see if it will manually cycle. This reminds me I thought I saw a video where you could short two other pins of the icemaker that forces water to dispense."

SOURCE: Kitchenaid KSCS25 Refrigerator Ice Maker Inop

you should not be able to push the stripper at all so that tells me that the gear on the icemaker module is bad. get part number 8201515 and you should be fixed up.

SOURCE: Ice maker is not working

if you keep your hands out of the little beam slot on the paddel that is located on the left of the freezer and push it in the beam should shoot across to the reciever on the right and the light should stay on constant, that is if you have the switch on the right side turned on.

if it is turned on and the paddel is depressed and the light is still blinking the you need a beam kit part number 4389102

SOURCE: No ice from icemaker of Kenmore Elite model 106

I just resolved an issue with my kenmore elite side by side refrigerator icemaker (model 106).
It was expensive because I took the long road to fixing the unit myself.

My problem: No water going up to the freezer water dispenser into the icemaker but the water in front of the door working just fine.

-first thing i tried was the simplest. The Internet is clogged with this miracle fix of using a hair dryer to melt the frozen water line going to the dispenser output. This is highly unlikely for our model since the water line is protected within the refrigerator frame.

-2nd thing I replaced my water filter (thinking that there wasn't enough water pressure to trigger the solenoid valve. $40, and still no luck.

-3rd thing was I tested for voltage going to the solenoid. No voltage going to solenoid, so I wasted $30 for a new solenoid.....still no water.

-4th thing was I ordered a new IR sensor and receiver (since the reciever end is where the relay that sends the voltage to the solenoid to turn on and allow water to go up to the dispenser).
My IR sender and receiver appeared to be working flakey.
Installed, still no water. $58 BUCKS ON EBAY (EVERYWHERE ELSE $100+)

-I finally removed the freezer front little white door, I TURNED OFF THE FREEZER SWITCH SO NO VOLTAGE WAS PRESENT, removed the release latch underneath the freezer unit and disconnected, and removed the freezer unit to inspect it further.
When I removed the protective white cover that covers the mechanical wheel, I had a few parts come flying out of it. Turns out that the wheel accessories were damaged. THERE ARE NO REPAIRABLE PARTS ON THE FREEZER UNIT. I FOUND ONE ON EBAY FOR $39 BUCKS + $9 SHIPPING! $48 BUCKS, SWAPPED THE HARNESS AND BOTTOM COVER, AND IN 20 MINUTES, I WAS BACK IN BUSINESS. STARTED MAKING ICE IN ABOUT A HALF HOUR!!!!!

when in doubt, replace the freezer unit for $48 bucks! 7 out of 10 times it will fix your problems. All techs replace the IR set at the same time too which will set you back another $58 bucks.
Good luck! ;)

Red light inside the freezer part stay on for my side by side Kenmore refrigerator

Hello William;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The, 'Red' light is a infra red light. This light assembly on the right hand side of your freezer is the transmitter.
Directly across is the receiver. On the receiver is a spring loaded plastic flapper.
This is a safety device for your ice maker. When the freezer door is closed, the flapper is closed, allowing the infra red transmitter to complete the signal to the receiver. This allows the ice maker to discharge ice cubes. When the door is open the signal is broken, the flapper springs out blocking the circuit signal, and the ice maker will not discharge ice cubes.
There is a On/Off switch on the red transmitter. I do not know why you would want to turn it off. If you turn it off and the transmitter stays on then you have to replace both the transmitter and receiver.

Ice maker sotp making ice / red light blinking

J, As you open the freezer door the LED on the right should flash 2X with a pause repeatedly. When you hold the left side emmiter down the light should stay on steady. If you have this, you know the optics are good unless the ejector blades are not home. First thing to check is where the ejector blades on the ice maker are parked. They should be resting in the 2:00 position. If they are not, you could have a broken module. If they are in the 2:00 positon the next thing to check would be the fill tube. You want to make sure it is not frozen over. You can disconnect it from the back and see if you can blow through the line or visually inspect it. If all of the above mentioned check out, jump start the ice-maker. Remove the quarter inch screw holding the harness cover on the right side. Remove the harness cover. Pull the ice-maker straight out but be carefull not to smash the emmitter flap on the left side. Leave the harness connected. Get a jumper wire with the ends stripped apout a 1/4 inch. Unplug the refer and place the jumper in test holes T&H. Leave the jumper in and place the ice maker on the shelf where you can close the door. Close the door and plug the refer back in. Wait 30 seconds and open the door. The ice maker should be cycleing. Pull the jumper and place the module cover back on. Put the ice maker back in the rails. It should fill at approx the 12:00 position. Let me know how you make out. Catriver.

Whirlpool how to install

Hi,

With the freezer door open, depress the flap on the left. Does the flashing stop? If so, the Ice maker is the problem, not he optics. With the flap depressed is the only way you can test this. Solid light mean good, one flash and a pause means cycling, 2 flashes and a pause means faulted optics. Now for the ice maker, what position are the harvest fingers sitting at? At 2 O'clock the Ice maker is parked, At 12 it should fill with water so if the fingers are in any other position than 2 O'clock than the ice maker will not cycle at it can't. Its possible that the ice maker have a broken gear and will not function as designed. Get back to me if you need more information and a model number would be great. Good Luck

Last check on Whirlpool icemaker

No, when you open the freezer door the right side light will flash 2 times with a pause repeatedly. Then when you hold the left side flapper down it will stay lit. In other words, it will be on steady. You do not have to have the door switch closed. Catriver.

Ice Maker

Frig, there is a couple of things you want to check here. First make sure that the fill tube that fills the ice maker is not frozen over. If it is, use a hair dryer or hot water in a baster to thaw it out. Second, check the ejector blades, they should be in the 2:00 position when in standby. If they are in any other position, you probably have a broken retainer clip on the module. The optics check as follows, with the door open 2 flashes with a pause repeatedly. Hold the left side flapper down and the light should stay on steady. If it does this, your optics are good. You can remove this ice-maker by removing the quarter inch screw in back on the right. Remove the harness cover and unplug the harness. The ice-maker will pull straight out. Then you can remove the module cover and check the center gear clips. Catriver..post back
