SOURCE: Bobbin winder is only thing that works

What model are you talking about? For my older Husqvarna machine you had to pull the bobbin winding bit out to wind the bobbin, then push it back in when you were done.

SOURCE: Janome sewing machine bobbin winder

I had that problem the first time I tried to wind a bobbin. What a mess. The next time I let the thread run through my finger and thumb before reaching the bobbin. I had to do the same on a previous Kenmore.

I've also found that the heavier Bernina bobbins don't 'jump' around.

The black plastic ring must be put back on with it oriented correctly. It can be a bit tricky, but experiment different ways.

Another small part may have come off too. If you can't get it, a Viking tech can do it for you without much trouble.

SOURCE: Bobbin winder will not spin on sewing machine

If you take the top off you will see a tiny rubber tire that engages the winder to the handwheel. Over time they get really soft are really hard and disintgrate. If you have a local sewing shop take the old one in and get a new one to slip on it takes only a few minutes and cost usually less that $2.00

Bobbin winder is engaged and shows up on screen correctly, but sewing mode is still engaged and bobbin winding keeps stopping.

check the drive knob on the end of the machine
it should be loose when winding a bobbin
if it is tight or seized then that will drive the needle

I have a IZEK singer sewing machine, I wound 3 bobbins with it and when I went back to sew it would not work

Sandy, I'm not familiar with IZEK machines, but it sounds like the bobbin winder has not correctly disengaged. Put it back into bobbin winding mode and run it (no need to wind a bobbin, just check that the bobbin winder turns), then stop and disengage the bobbin winder and try sewing again. Hope this solves it for you. If it won't turn the bobbin winder either then it may have slipped or broken the drive belt and you will need to take it to your local sewing centre.

Broken bobbin winder

For $29 at Hancock, Jo Ann's or Wal Mart you can get a thing called a Side Winder that will wind your bobbins without using the winder on your sewing machine. It has the additional advantage that you can wind while sewing. I use it even with machines that will wind bobbins.

My elna sewing machine bobbin won't spin on top to wind thread around. The fly wheel spins though...I've been putting thread on the bobbins by hand.

If the fly wheel is going around then the clutch isn't disengaged to wind the bobbin, you need to pull out the flywheel on your model to disengage the clutch for bobbin winding.

Take thread from thread spool across to bobbin winder thread guide, then back to bobbin and thread the tail through the hole on top of the bobbin. Place bobbin onto spindle on top of machine and then push it against the stop to engage the bobbin winding motor. HOld the thread tail up and start winding slowly until the bobbin core has been covered including the starting point. Stop and trim off the thread tail with scissors. COntinue winding bobbin and give the thread a nudge if needed to wind evening top middle and bottom of the bobbin. A good smooth wind is important. Also don't wind at full speed and keep an eye on the thread reel that the thread is coming off, you don't want it bouncing around as this will **** the thread and stretch then relax it affecting your bobbin wind.

Obviously if you know this and the bobbin winding mechanisim is just not working, then it will need a service/replacement by an Elna repair person.

Bobbin winder will not wind

The bobbin winder will not activate to turn the bobbin or the thread will not wind onto the bobbin spool?

Sewing machines vary in the method used for bobbin winding.

You can find threading and bobbin winding guides at sewusa.com.

If the winder is broken, you can get it repaired or check into getting a Sidewinder Bobbin Winder as an auxiliary for winding the bobbins, which would be less expensive than the repair.
