Your best bet is to go online. Type the make and model number into google, then check the results for hitachi’s own website.
They might still have the software available for download.
I did a quick search in the US and found: http://www.hitachiserviceusa.com/en/download/dl.asp
This may or may not help....

The door might be stuck. Try "helping" it open manually after pressing the eject button. Otherwise, something is probably broken and you might have to call a repairman.
SOURCE: Hitachi dz mv230a DVD CAM - can't copy video to computer (WXP Pro)
Hi Boss,
here is your complete solution for your dvd cam
You will need pc drivers in order to use dvd cam
Download from the link below
http://drivers.soft5000.com/driver4465.html
Use the link below to download the manual or guide which help you in transfering data from dvd to pc
http://www.retrevo.com/support/Hitachi-DZ-MV230A-Camcorders-manual/id/201ci664/t/2/
Guide for transfering data to pc
Utilizing a USB computer connection and Hitachi's optional PC Editing
Kit Software (DZ-WINPC3W), the DVD camcorders become external DVD home
movie drives. Video can be transferred from the DVD camcorder to the PC
for editing. After editing, the video can be transferred back to the
DVD camcorder and recorded. This is where the strength of Hitachi's
multi-format DVD camcorders gives consumers an unprecedented
capability:
1. Record video utilizing the rewrite-able DVD-RAM format
2. Transfer the footage to the PC
3. Edit the footage on the PC
4. Transfer the footage back to the DVD camcorder and record it onto DVD-R for compatibility with most DVD players
Or if available, the video can be transferred
by placing the disc into a PC's 4.7G byte DVD-RAM or DVD-ROM3 drive.
Editing steps to note:
Getting your Hitachi DVD ram vro to
video cd or dvd! *note just changing the vro file to mpg does not work,
what happens is you only see the 1st segment of your recordings. I went
through insane amounts of hell figuring all of this out. The below
method to my knowledge is the only way to do it without going insane!
Only Two Programs Needed:
DVD2AVI
TMPGENC
Basic steps are here, let me know if you need more detail:
-Copy your .vro file to your hard drive
-open dvd2avi
-load the vro file directly into dvd2avi
-do a save project (that will create 2 small files)
-close dvd2avi, you're done with it now
-now open tmpgenc
-load the video portion of your dvd2avi project (the d2v file)
-load your audio portion of your dvd2avi project (the other one)
-you're set! just output the file to svcd or whatever you like!
-need to edit the file? use tmpgenc mpeg tools and segment the
clips you want, then merge them back together as 1 mpeg, it works great
and no need for re-encoding!

I lost my DVD Movie Album SE install CD, so I tried to find a free download online, but to no avail. I can't use my Hitachi camera without it. I also searched all over the internet to purchase the DVD-Movie Album SE software, and ended up with my credit card being charged to a porn site, so DONT believe the places that say they have the software available for download. Its a SCAM!
I finally got ahold of Hitachi through thier website, and they sent me the names of reputable Hitachi dealers, so I ended up buying it from them. Here is a copy of the email they sent, with a list of dealers. I highly recommend going this route. It is costly, I think about $19.95 plus shipping. Here is the email Hitachi sent me:
