Can I charge archos 604 batteries using dvr station and power outlet?

yes you can, however the battery must be inserted into the 604. Simply dock the 604, ensure the dvr is turned on and the 604 will automatically turn on and start charging.

How to change battery on archos 605

You will need to puchase a new battery. I bought mine from 'newmp3 technology.com' over the internet about 9 months ago and the battery is as good today as it was when I bought it Take care that you choose the right battery the size the 4Gb and 30Gb Archos 605 is thinner than the other variants New mp3.. has both sizes for about £20 (GBP). Note the changing the battery will void its warranty but if you are outside the warranty period you loose nothing by trying this. Now to change it:- Turn the Archos onto its screen. Locate the leg stand at one end. Parallel to this stand there is a narrow strip with two cross heads, one at each end. Remove these screws and lift the narrow strip out. You will be able to slip the large matt aluminium back panel about 3mm towards the leg stand and then the panel will lift free. Locate the battery and cut the wires close to the battery. Strip about 8mm of the insulation of the tails left on the Archos and on the wire tails on the new battery. If you have soldering iron, great but if not twist the exposed wires tightly, red to red and white to white. Wrap the joints in insulation tape or Sellotape tape (sticky face to sticky face folded over the joint works really well). Fold the wires back along the top edge and insert the battery. If the battery appears that it may be loose when fitted put a 5cm square of folded kitchen towel at the back of it to provide some soft, space-filling packing. Refit the back plate and and strip with the two screws. You will need to charge the battery for about 4 hours. Do not be surprised to find some of your previous Archos glitches have gone; disconnecting the battery causes a full reset of the system but all the files are still there. Good luck

Recovery (code2) Archos 604wifi

OK, here is a really quick thing to solve your problem.
Basically you have to open up the device, and its that simple.
1. take out the battery
2. remove the two screws closest to the "kick out leg" at the back of the archos. *removing the battery shows the screws.
3.on the right hand side of the archos when looking from the back, you will see 4 screws. You need to undo the two screws that are closest to the back of the archos. NOT THE OTHERS NEARER THE FRONT - as they are for the screen!!!
4. remove the now loosened pannel. (you may need to use something flat to wedge it off).
5. take out the hardrive. (it should bend over from the top, it is connected by a strip)
6. the problem for me was that the strip wasnt connected to the archos properly, e.g. it was loose)
It can even come out if it is too loose.
7. don't worry if it does come out, but that is why its not working.
8. the strip should fit under the little piece of plastic on the motherboard. (like two thin rectangles, one is black and it has a white one above it)
9. the black thin rectangle can come off, try to do this, but its delicate so be careful.
10. once off you can re-align the strip/ribbon on the end of the hardrive under the whhite rectangle and also under where the black rectangle previously was.
11. once aligned place th black triangle back on top of the strip in line with the white rectangle. the black rectangle should push and click into place, securing the strip in place.
12. once this is done the deivce should be fixed.
13. carefully put everything back in place and re-insert all of the screws (be careful with the small screws)
14. press the reset button under the battery and then re-insert the battery.
15. turn on the deivce and see if it works.
16. finally if the deivce still doesn't work then you either didn't line up the strip properly. Or something else is wrong e.g. complete hardrive faliure, or another connection problem.

I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU, IT TOOK ME 4 TRIES UNTIL IT WORKED. BUT THANK GOD IT DID.
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR DEVICE FILES (ALL OF THEM INCLUDING SYSTEM FILES) ONTO YOUR COMPUTER.
good luck, and I will not be held responsible for anything you do, it is intirely up to you.
p.s. worst case senario is that you have to buy an Archos 5. Lucky bum, they are amazing.

Hi, ensure your Archos is already turned on before plugging in the USB cable and select HardDrive Mode on the pop up notice. If this dosn't work, once your Archos is ON and plugged in to your computer, press MENU on your Archos and select USB then HardDrive Mode on the next screen. Hope this helps, Shaz

Its turning on ans archos entertainment your way is showing, but nothing else theres no menu, amd when i plug it into the computer still nothing or charge it

Make sure your operating system (XP, Vista, Macintosh, etc) is compatible with the Archos. Make sure you installed the installation CD first, before inserting the player. Restart the computer once before inserting the player. If same result, try a different usb port on the same computer or another computer.

If it still doesn't work, then go to the Archos website and see if a firmware upgrade is available for your particular model.
