What oil goes in rear axle on Contach mower with honda V twin think its K46 transaxle pete scales

I believe this unit has a K46 transaxle. Hydrostat fluid level check and fill procedure may be found in the axle seal replacement guide.

Tuff Torq transmissions take a multi grade engine oil
10w-30/10w-40 will do fine, if it has a reservoir do no over fill or when the oil gets hot it will expand and leak out through the top

Depends if your has an external expansion or not. Normally you do don't need to check these transaxles as they are considered sealed units but if you wish to do so the following is the two documents from Tuff Torq on how do it.

Your by-pass valves are your forward and reverse petals.

I would be taking a very close look at the drive belt pulleys and their bearings. If that is all good then replace the springs which maintain the tension. There is some extra slop in there somewhere allowing the belt to run out of the groove.

The last time I had a Honda mower in my repair shop I noticed that Honda doesnt do individual parts on its transmissions for mowers OR tillers.

You can fix this mower...but the transaxles are a bit expensive. Honda mowers do tend to be worth it though.

If the axle broke cleanly maybe someone would weld it back together?
I mean, the wheels dont turn that fast that balance would be an issue right? And I am sure the axle metal is cold rolled steel....which is to say it isnt thin cast material that would resist welding. If you take the transmission out of your mower and just take the parts to a good jobber maybe they would give it a try for 10-20 bucks? Dont expect a guarantee...but, for 20 bucks most shops wont even pick up a mower let alone try to fix it.

If this gives you another couple of years of service that would give you time to consider a replacement mower when the unit needs service again.

On the transaxle the rod goes through a leaver the break pads are beside that leaver.
