MT27- 3-4 years old ordered from the manufacture. I'm on my third recharge of the air compressor. Second Repair guy says I need a new compressor. Are there any recalls or can i have the Bev-air replace...

not sure why you would need a new compressor unless it actually has a freon leak on one of the seams during the building process. This is extremely rare. I've only seen one in over 25 years. Some manufacturers have 5 year warrenty on the compressor but do not cover the labor and freon and such to replace the compressor. Either one of the repair guys should have checked into this for you as part of their service. Try contacting Beverage Air and give them your model and serial numbers to see if you still have a warranty on your unit. It's worth a shot.
Now, in order for you to need freon added, it has to have a leak somewhere in the system. It is a sealed system and should never need freon added unless it either has a leak or someone put the improper amount in the system. I would try to find a repair man that has been recommended to you and has good ratings. Check better business outfits or the net.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Best thing you can do is to take it back to the place of purchase, if it is under warranty you will void this if you play with the compressor. Remember to take a copy of your invoice.

I bought a Frigidare refrigerator today. Warranty needed?

its really just up to you. I am a service tech in grants pass oregon and i know compressors dont last anymore. Its because in the last 10 years they have switched from r12 freon to 134a. 134a has higher head pressures which make the compressor go out. If the compressor warranty isnt too much money i would do that warranty. You dont really need the others.

COMPRESSOR

If you are in the USA
A compressor must be replaced by a certified refrigeration technician due to federal laws about proper handling of refrigerant. Also, all the joints must be soldered together with a torch, this is not a job for an amature.
If the fridge is less than 5 yrs old it should still be covered by the sealed system warranty and repaired at no charge.
I do know that the compressors for many of the SxS fridgidaires have been on back order due to a change to a different brand of replacement compressor. I recently waited 2 1/2 weeks on one I had ordered for a customer.
Once the tech has the compressor it is usually about a 2 hr job to replace, depending on the model.
Most of the parts dealers you contact will be hesitant to sell a compressor to someone that is not in the repair buisness, due to warranty claims if it is not installed properly. If you want to get one yourself you should be able to order it through Sears if you can't find it anywhere else. Go to sears.com, click on parts and enter the complete model number from the sticker in the refrigerator. If your model isn't listed you can call the 800 number on their site.
Hope this helps.
