If Velcro is not working for you try some magnetic strips. Purchase some magnetic strips attach to both the cover and the tub. Be sure the polarity of the magnetic strips is correct so they attract each other. You could glue the strips to the cover attach the tub strips to the cover strips then apply glue to the tub strips and apply the cover to the tub allow the glue to dry and that would insure correct polarity and positioning of the strips. Just depends if there is a display to enter into the menu and disable it. or by installing the software on to your laptop. But the software might be just for looking at metering such as voltages, currents, turning the UPS ON or OFF, etc. They usually allow you do disable the beep. But some don't allow you to do anything as to change settings. If you had a bigger ups with display, it will allow you. 3000va's and up, i believe.
is it a latched door, if so weather stripping (high density foam) is a good alternative, commonly used on edges of doors, believe it or not that is a door seal just without the cover to make it more pleasing to look at, it comes in various depths, sizes and is normally two sides adhesive. if it is a magnet strip type; pick a side and use it as a strip magnet surface or cover it.
Wrap the magnetic strip in a plastic bag (the kind of plastic bag you get at a grocery store) and then swipe the card and it will work just fine. I learned this working in gas stations when the customers card did not work it would work when the strip was wrapped in plastic
Battery is very easy to remove. Take it out and test it. If you dont have a meter to test it take it to an interstate battery store they will test it for you. They sell new ones should you need to purchace one.
