I have a Samsung PN64D8000. The TV will power on just fine and after some time will either shut down -power light blinks 5 times (happens most frequently), loses picture and has sound, or just loses picture and sound and does not turn off on its own. Letting the TV sit for a period of time (10-15 mins) will allow it to power on and produce picture and sound but one of the symptoms described above eventually will recur. Any idea what may be causing this? Thanks in advance

How old is the tv set also do you have it plugged up to a power cord? Can you tell me how many times does the light blink thank you.

The vertical output section should be checked for the fault. Check this site for more details.

There is a sequence that you have to check to figure out which board is bad,

Physically disconnect the SU board and the SD board. (See precaution # 5)

Plug in the TV and turn it on.

Try checking your lamp door. I have seen a few of these that you need to really wrench that screw down. Let us know.

I have seen this flashing before, this could be an indication that the picture tube is weak, what happens is that if the white balance is off there is a circuit called akb it monitors the kathode of each gun and if they are not in balance it will attempt to balance it out. if it can't the picture will begin to flash, sometimes in some models the power light will blink 5 times. On some models the power light will only flash if the tv gives up trying to compinsate for white balance and shuts off compeletely. If you see the tv shutting off with 5 blinks then you know for sure it is time for a new set.

tv comes on then turns blue at that time it shuts down. The power is on and then it blinks 5 times!!!
