My Bernina 530 is changing the number for the foot I'm using back and forth from 9 to 10. Is there anything I can do before bringing it in for service?

SOURCE: I don't know how to use a Bernina foot I have

There are videos on the Bernina website on how to use the feet. #61 -#69 are all hemming feet. Look on this page of presser feet videos. Click the one that says #64.

SOURCE: I turned off my machine to change the pressure

The machine Knows the foot number buy the small glass part of the foot just on the upper right side of the foot. Check to see if that is not damaged and clean. Also check the sensor on the machine just above the foot for not damage and clean. If that is good make sure your foot is paralel with the stitch plate. Do this buy putting a single hole foot on your machine and make sure the needle is right in the center. If this does not work you will need to take it in. May be a bad sensor or unpulged but that is rare.
Also not all bernina feed have this foot sensor, if this is the case it will not read it

SOURCE: got bernina 1015 sport sewing

This machine uses 'New style' snap on feet. The reason it is 'new' is because old style Bernina feet are the complete foot, whereas new style you just 'snap on' the foot base.

Ebay is the best place to find original Bernina feet at very reasonable prices. I recently purchased a solid steel 'old style' foot from UK for U.S. $28.

When purchasing zipper feet, decide if you want regular zipper foot or invisible zipper foot. Often it is cheaper to order both at the same time, due to S&H fees.

I recently acquired a Bernina 530-2 record with a frozen decorative stitch change lever and needle positon mechanism. I've tried oil and heat, but its still frozen. Is there anything else I can try?

I've worked on several 530-2 machine--recommend liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube alternating with heat. Note: It has taken me sometimes nearly a week to get frozen mechanisms released. Just a lot of patience, persistence, and elbow grease... Focus on those particular areas that are still resistant.

I don't know how to use the darning on my bernina 950. Can you advise

You need to use a darning presser foot--there are several designs of darning feet made by Bernina or generic brands (be sure the generic model has the appropriate attachment for your particular Bernina). You can find metal or plastic, clear or solid foot, open or closed toe, spring-loaded hopper or not, etc. Drop the feed dogs. If it is thinner fabric (lighter weight than denim), it sometimes helps to put the fabric in an embroidery hoop (upside down with the fabric next to the needle plate). If the hole is small, you can use the little hoop that should have been included in your Bernina accessory kit. Then you manually move the fabric back & forth, up & down under the presser foot while stitching.

I have a Bernina Patchwork 140. How do I change the needle to stop in the down position? The sewing manual is no help.

As far as I know, the Patchwork 140 doesn't have a needle stop up/down button. You'll need to use the hand wheel to bring the needle up or down, as needed. The Bernina machines that have a needle stop up/down button have this button below the LCD screen. (On those machines, it's usually the left-most button below the LCD.) I suspect the index giving a page number for the Needle Stop Up/Down button is a artifact of using the same index for multiple machines.

The manual for the Patchwork 140 is available at Manuals Lib here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1002243/Bernina-Activa-131.html . The Bernina 135 has the needle stop up/down button. See https://www.bernina.com/en-US/Support-US/Machines/BERNINA-activa/BERNINA-activa-135 . The manual for this model is https://www.bernina.com/getdoc/90f75840-2b12-4f46-88f2-76f09e35d8d4/030529-52-04_0303_a135-a145_EN .

I hope this helps.

My Bernina 530 is not stitching as nicely as it has been even with the walking foot. Had 3 months and have had super results until today. New needle, rethreaded, re did bobbin, cleaned all lint away

It is the older mechanical Bernina 530 Record or the newer computerized Bernina 530?

The mechanical model may need a thorough clean and oil.

Without knowing exactly what symptoms the machine is exhibiting, we are limited in our ability to assist.

How do I avoid breaking a needle on a 26 foot beginning a free motion project after programing the foot choice and lowering the foot?

#26 is an embroidery foot. Why are you using an embroidery foot for free motion quilting? A #24 free motion embroidery foot will work but not the #26. Try using a darning foot that is just a smidgen shorter so there is space between it and the needleplate for you to freely move the fabric. (Adding a Supreme Slider sheet to the work surface of your machine helps make the fabric glide much smoother.) A standard presser foot is made to press the fabric against the feed dogs so the feed dogs will move the fabric. When free motion quilting, you would drop the feed dogs and move the material with your hands.

Depends which model Bernina you have (new or old style presser feet), which will work on your machine. There are also many generic darning/FMQ feet available that will work on your machine.
