I have a brother mfc-l8850cdw and two narrow yellow bands are printing on the sides of the page.

I tried cleaning the corona wires and cleaning the drum rollers and still getting the two bands. Any other ideas?

SOURCE: Pls Clean Drum

The drum is the larger plastic unit that slides out an the toner cartridge fits into it. The corona wire is the very fine wire at the front top of the drum. Just slide the little cleaning tab back and forth.

SOURCE: print problems with brother MFC-8860DN

Replace the drum. The drum is failing.
When you replace the drum open the front door of the machine where thr drum and toner is.
Hit the clear/back button. Press 1
That resets the drum count after you replaced the unit.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Brother MFC 8220 all-in-one fax prints with a vertical line

First guess is you have a bit of dirt (often white-out from people scanning corrected paper that's not quite dry) stuck on the fax scan window. This should be described pretty well in your user manual (which you can download online from brother.com).

Its also possible that there is dirt (typically loose toner) on the laser scan window (there's a laser that shines through it to get the image pattern on the drum). That window is often along the bottom of the unit under the drum/cartridge (take the cartridge out and look). The Brother manual I've seen seems to ignore this possibility.

Print streaks DO NOT mean cartridge drum replacement in many cases !! On brother Intellifax or MFC or other laser copier/printer/fax, keep in mind that either the fax/copy scan window OR the laser scan window can get dirty. If the fax scan window is dirty, you see streaks on outgoing faxes and copies (but NOT incoming faxes). If the laser scan window is dirty, you see streaks on all prints (copies, faxes, print-from-computer).

Note also that when transporting/moving some laser copier with the toner cartridge inside, the toner can get out and make a big mess inside (including getting the laser scan window dirty). An air compressor can be usefull to blow it out. And sometimes using alcohol to clean is a BAD idea (maybe incompatible with plastic and rubber parts). A damp rag is probably fine.

My Brother MFC-7420 Printer always prints black lines and splotches down the left side of my paper. This happens whether I'm scanning or printing from my PC. When I looked at my drum, it appears a

If you are seeing vertical streaks/black lines your primary corona wire is dirty and or the fax scanner may be dirty.
1)To clean the corona wire you take the drum unit and toner cartridge and place it on disposable paper to avoid spilling.
2) Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by sliding the blue tab from right to left several times.
3) Return the blue tab and snap it into the home position.
4) Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge.
5) Close the front cover.
Caution: if you do not return the blue tab to the home position it may repeat the black lines.

Thick black vertical line all the way down on left had side of page when printing

You may have figured this out, but I had the same thing happen on one of our Brother 2820 Intellifaxes. Turns out that if you don't return the corona wire cleaning tab (blue tab on the drum assembly) back to "home" position, it will block that portion of the corona wire and result in a black strip on any output where the cleaning tab is blocking the corona wire. Hopefully, this will help someone Googling for
the same issue.

This happened to mine, only my thick edge was blue. My problem was that the little green slider that cleans the wire on the toner holder was pushed to the wrong side. (Sorry, can't remember technical term for the green thing or the wire! It has an arrow on it and it's pretty easy to spot.) Push it all the way back to the left until it clicks and it should fix the problem.

When printing their is a white vertical line through the entire page.I am using a Brothers MFC-6800 printer with a operation system Window XP professional.

The first thing I would try is to fix the corona wire. Here is a link to Brother's website outlining the process (clean corona wire).
What you need to do is pull out the drum and look for a blue tab on the top of the cartridge. Slide that tab back and forth along the wire and see if that clears things up.
I have had some luck cleaning the drum when I get black streaks but I have also hear this can be dangerous and make the problem worse.

Brother MFC 4800 print quality problem

I would try cleaning the drum unit.
Take the drum unit out of the printer.
They recommend that you place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering toner.
1. Carefully turn the drum unit upside down.
2. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the tad from right to left several times. (Be careful with the corona wire they are delicate.)
3. Return the tab to the Home position before reinstalling the drum unit. (If you do not position the tab at the home position, printed pages may have vertical lines.)
4. Re-install the drum unit.
5. Close the top cover.
6. Plug in the power cord.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck.
