The problem is a defective defrost system. The defrost system comprises defrost thermostat, heater, defrost control and fan. The parts that fail more commonly are thermostat and heater. Both parts are located behind freezer firewall and tested reading impedance with a multimeter.
You have either a defrost timer, defrost thermostat or defrost element that is bad.Before you defrost, use an ohmmeter to check the defrost thermostat to see if it is closed. If it is , defrost and check the defrost element for continuity. If it has verry little resistance , you have a bad defrost timer.
There are three chances for not getting freeze. Defrost activate quickly, due to: 1. Thermostat malfunction- Replace it. Thermostat setting. - Must be -5 degree or less than that. 2. Defrost timer for malfunction. If so, replace it. 3. Freezer heater malfunction.- Replace it.3. System chocked or short of gas. Check with run amps. Solution: If system chocked, release all gas and replace filter drier. Flush out the system, vacuum and recharge gas. If short of gas, leak test and arrest it. Vacuum and do gas charging. Thanks.
