Chest freezers have the condenser coil in the side walls do not drill into the sdes to install locks without knowing exactly where the coIL is. I would think a locksmith could install a lock for you. That or secure your garage better.
There must be a loose cable for the green light to come on. Your thermostat might need replacement especially if doesn't go on defost which happens automatically.
There should be a few screws to change. They are covered by a smll plate to keep it looking tidy. Just pop the plate off and replace it. I am assuming you are going back with the original parts.
