SOURCE: widescreen tv=widescreen movie still have black on top & bottom

Sorry, you didn't provide enougb information for anyone to accurately answer your question. The most important thing you omiited was the nature of your video source. If anyone does answer this, I assure you it will be a wild guess. Here's my wild guess:

Your HDTV has a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. For every 16 units of width, there are 9 units of height. That ratio matches the exact ratio used in widescreen television broadcasting. However, most feature films (movies) on DVD have an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 or even wider than that. These films will display with horizontal black bars at the top and the bottom, so that you can see the full image. Unless you choose to use one of your TV or your DVD player's options to zoom or crop the image, the bars are 'correct' and there's nothing wrong.

Another possibility is that you have not configured your video source, such as a DVD player, to 'know' that you have a widescreen TV. Nearly all DVD players ship configured to output using a NON-widescreen aspect ratio, so you must adjust this setting using your player's setup menu. The same is true for most cable boxes and satellite receivers.

Finally, just because your TV is widescreen, the video source itself may not be. Most standard-definition broadcasts are NOT widescreen, for example.

If you re-post your question with adequate information about which video source exhibits this problem, I'm sure you will get much more specific and helpful answers.

SOURCE: Need code for Viore TV to program LG RC897T DVD/VHS Recorder

I believe Viore is the same as Samsung. I only noticed this by accident as I bought a Viore TV and my friend bought a Samsung and I noticed both remotes were identical. I tried the Samsung codes and the remote worked. Good luck! Kevin

I have a LG DVD and Video Set Recorder Model RC897T, I connected to my Vizio Smart TV using HDMI, when I play VCR or DVD I have audio but no video, any advice would be appreciated

The most likely issue is the output resolution on the RC397T. It could be set to 1080p (progressive) and needs to be 1080i (interlaced). I've seen this happen with other set top boxes. On the front panel of the DVD/VCR recorder, there is a button labeled Res. It's to the left of the USB port and to the right of the DVD/VCR selection button. Each press of the button will change to a different resolution: 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i for HDMI. (The resolution button also changes the component out resolution between 480i and 480p. You may need to step through these choices, as well, even if the component out isn't in use.)

Due to some issues with resetting the resolution, you may need to turn off the DVD recorder and possibly the TV after some of the resolution changes to see any video output change.

I hope this helps. The user manual for the RC897T is available from the support page: https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-RC897T.BUSALLK . The manual link is on the right hand side of the page. My browser gives the direct link to the manual as https://gscs-b2c.lge.com/downloadFile?fileId=KROWM000185603.pdf . See page 60 for the front panel button descriptions.

How can I use my LG RC897T to record on to usb Flash drives ?

Record USB with LG RC897T

[email protected]
How can I use my LG RC897T to record on to usb Flash drives ?
LG RC897T I want to record onto USBs now. Which model of electronic item should I buy for the home?

To record on to a USB flash drive using an LG RC897T, you'll need to follow these steps:

Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port on the front of the LG RC897T.

Press the "Menu" button on the remote control and select "Recording" from the main menu.

Select "USB Recording" and then "Start" to begin recording. The recording will be saved on the USB flash drive.

As for purchasing an electronic item for home recording, there are several options available, such as digital voice recorders, video cameras, or even smartphones with recording capabilities. You could also consider purchasing an external audio capture device that can be connected to your RC897T to capture audio directly to your computer. It depends on the quality and format of the recording you're looking to make.

Can not make the picture to be full screen. Just purchased a 32 inch and the picture is only about 20 inch.

You may have to run the video display setup on the TV first and tell it what modes you want to see. HD would be 1080p or 720p and 16:9 widescreen ratio. Older TV shows that are non HD would be 480i and 4:3 ratio. You need to feed in an HD signal to get full widescreen (unless you select stretch mode for the 4:3 older programs which would look terrible). You have to feed in a 16:9 ratio HD signal to get a full screen display properly. Either from an external HD antenna if your TV has a built in tuner, or from a Blue Ray DVD into the HDMI or component video TV inputs. What is the TV Brand and Model Number?

Screen flashed and stopped displaying widescreen

Usually this is because the display has been changed from 16:9 (widescreen) mode to 4:3 (standard) mode. On the front panel there's a button labelled "4:3 in Wide." Press this button to return to Widescreen mode. If it says "OSD Locked" then you need to hold the "Menu" key for several seconds to unlock the controls, before changing it to widescreen.

If that doesn't correct the problem then you need to adjust your computer's output resolution to a 16:9 ratio like 1920x1080 (1080p) or 1280x720 (720p.)

When turning on the monitor the LG logo come on and then a few seconds later ......It goes into low power mode and the screen goes black. Tried everything !

Make sure there is a solid connection between the monitor and the computer. Also, make sure the computer is on. The monitor won't power up completely unless there is a signal going to it. Also, see if the power pack on the monitor's cord is awfully warm. You may have an overheating problem and as a safety the monitor shuts itself off. If it is warm try plugging the monitor into a surge protector or different outlet. Don't use a power adapter that didn't come with the monitor. It may provide too much or too little power. If there is still a problem, contact LG. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I purchased a DVD that states: Widescreen Format (Aspect Ratio 1.85.1) I'm unable to get 'widescreen/letterbox'. The movie shows up full screen or a 'stretched' view. All other movies I've...

On the DVD recorder remote: press function menu button: enter setup screen - scroll down to connection - TV aspect - select either 16:9 / 4:3 Letterbox / 4:3 Pan&scan. If you are using an older TV which is not a widescreen, set the aspect to '4:3 Letterbox'.

You should now be able to view your DVD movies from this machine through a 4:3 standard TV in letterbox format. (some DVDs do not allow pan&scan so letterbox or widescreen is recommended). Very rare that a DVD title is not compatible with 4:3 TVs. I assume your deck is set to output 16:9 aspect by default.

I find this is the cheapest and easiest solution and can save lots of dollars in service call-outs. You can always reset the unit back to shipping condition later if you need to, or in the rare case of digital channels disappearing from your tuner memory.

Hi just got a LG dvd/vcr Model RC897T. I have it hocked up right, but i can't get it to switch over so that it would be seen on the TV. can you help

If a cable box is not required for cable signal reception, connect the cable line to the ANT. IN connector on the recorder.
If a cable box is required for cable signal reception, connect the cable line to the IN connector of the cable box. Connect a coaxial cable from the OUT connector of the cable box to the ANT. IN connector of the recorder.
To view or record a CATV channel:
  1. Tune the TV to the Recorder output channel (CH 3 or 4).
  2. Set the Recorder channel selector to the cable output channel. (Example: CH3).
  3. Select a channel using the cable converter.
With this connection, you cannot record one program while viewing another. If you are using a cable box to tune channels, it is not necessary to do Auto Channel Set.

1}DVDR 3480 playback on many Dvds widescreen insteadof 4.3 as set. 2) my Vcr. has 3pin phono. Dvdr scart to Phono .Xt2 says nosignal. Phono tophono (cam socket) no signal .cannot copt tape to DVD. 3)B W...

1) The 4:3 / 16:9 option only optimises playback for that particular type of TV. The 4:3 setting also allows you to set the output between:

  • 4:3 PS - expands the picture vertically and horizontally which gets rid of the black bars, but you also lose the left and right edges of the picture.
  • 4:3 LB - Letterbox format, displays the full picture from the disc, with black bars top and bottom.
The PS option loses the bars on 16:9 widescreen DVDs, but may still leave bars on true cinema widescreen DVDs, which are 21.7:9
This is normal.
  • 16:9 - Optimises the picture for a widescreen TV. Again True cinema widescreen DVDs will still have black bars.
2) All of the external inputs will show "No signal" until there is actually a signal playing into them.
EG to copy VHS to DVD, you will need to select the relevant scart or phono input, and press play before the recorder will register a signal and allow recording.
Some bought VHS videos have copy protection, and may cause problems when copying to DVD.

3) Greenish playback maybe caused by colour setting on TV being too high. Also check Hue or Tint settings on the TV, if it has them.

4) For some reason, in their infinite wisdom, Philips omitted the Video Plus facility from this model.
