If you have read the instructions and followed them properly you should just take it back, you did not say what it was doing or not (beside not nailing) so I'm not sure what defect it may have or how defective it may be.
just be sure you are properly trying to use it as odd as that may sound. Something about fixing new products I'm just not a fan fixing or repairing a new item even tho I could repair almost anything- I do not get paid to repair a new product I might buy- so I simply won't- its implied it would work as intended. good luck

If you have air pressure it should work with nails in it. Take it back.
SOURCE: Nailer jams with 1-5/8 brads
It sound to me that the 1 5/8 brads are not 18 guage but probably 16 guage and they will not work. Double check them first before going any further. You can usually lay them next to the smaller ones that work and see the size difference, if not let me know and I will dig deeper.
SOURCE: nailer drives one nail but driver pin doesn,t
Remove the air hose and open the nailer head section. Look for a foreign object in this are that could be jamming the drive pin. Also, make sure you are using the right size nails.
SOURCE: porter cable brad nailer only fires brad on second trigger pull
The dent in the wood is not caused by the air. It's caused by the set that drives the brad. Are you oiling it consistenly? Are the brads the right manufacturer for your porter cable brad nailer? From the information you give it appears that the brads are not advancing correctly or that the air pressure is not sufficient to dislodge the brad from the brad strip on the first strike - it takes an additional strike to break it free. The standard for adding oil is to add ten drops of air tool oil for every hour of operation. That seems like a lot, but the correct amount of oil is a sure way to prevent most air tool problems.
Testimonial: "Thanks for the info. I was not oiling it at that rate. Is there anything I can do to fix the issue now that I didn't prevent it?"

check your hex wrenches they could be standard when they need to be metric.
SOURCE: BN200A porter cable brad nailer. have tried
check for a broken driver blade, also make sure of the proper nail guage for the tool. Let me know if this is not the case and I will find you a breakdown for the tool for further inspection.
