SOURCE: How do I empty the Drip Pan
Remove the grill underneath the doors. A flashlight helps, look for a plastic pan, it should just lift out. Some of the older models the pan is bolted down. If you still cant find it, slide the refer out and take the panel off the back, some are easier this way.

aye that is true if you click the coffe making button directly after you have had it out you will be able to make a cup, as the machine has a 2 second response time.
Ok here is what i think:
As it registers the driptray I dont think its the sensor to it.
More i would think that its the CPU card that is not responding to that its clean.
I am sry but I have to ask this:
When it says emptie the driptray are you actually taking out the container that is located under the brewing unit, and not the "drip tray" were you put the coffe mugs?
Also when i think i have a sensor problem I allways take out everything. Brewing unit, dripwater container, dregbox, and the watercontainer. and have it out for atleast 2 minutes ( clean it under the mean time) and put it back again.
As I dont have the machine infront of me i cant be certain:)
SOURCE: water not coming out of dispensing area, goes to drip tray
Try this, if the machine has a pregrind door(usually on the top front) then use the button to tell it you are using pre grind coffee, if water comes out the spout this way then the grind on the grinder is too fine, if it goes out the drain then the coffee passage is blocked, remove the brew unit and check/clear tubes, also clean the spouts on the door of the unit.

take a long fingernail file that is a fine grit. hold it with a pair of needlenose pliers, and use it to clean the contacts in the back of the machine where the drip tray plugs in. You need to clean each contact top and bottom. you can tape the fingernail file to a ruler or pencil or whatever you need to so that you can reach the contacts. it is very tight as the opening is only an inch or so tall. dont go crazy with the file, just lightly touch each contact. also you can swap the two metal contacts on the drip tray. you will notice that they have little wear lines on them that are in different locations. if you swap them , they will be exposed to new surface. if that doesnt work, you may have an internal leak that is shorting the drip tray contacts from the back of the machine. If there is water back there, it is the same as the drip tray being full.
