SOURCE: how do you get to the file valve? Do I remove the rear panel?

You get at the the valve by removing the washing machine cabinet, not by taking off the back. The process is described well in pictures here. It's not a difficult process at all, and you can save quite a bit by doing this repair yourself.

SOURCE: Inside the rear bottem access

The following web blog on the noise and problem, has a consensus about it:
http://servicetechhelp.com/discus/messages/2801/6894.html?1286386585
Basically, the compressor will have to be replaced to stop the noise, but some people have used theirs for years with the same problem. Basically, it won't hurt anything to run it as long as it will run, if you can handle the noise.

Kelvinator fridge not cooling

Try defrosting the fridge. Check the cold plate at the back of the food compartment once the fridge has been defrosted and turned back on again. The cold plate in the freezer (around the walls) will be cold to touch as will the cold plate at the back of the fridge,

Magic Chef MCWC50DBT wine cooler has power and shows temp reading of 74 degree (room temp) but won't keep cool down. Compressor will come on every once in a while if you nudge the fridge but after cooling...

Have the same issue with the mcwc50dbt.

The relay seems fine, no oxidation on ceramic insert.

I used to tap the back of control panel and sometimes the compressor would start up, cool the unit, but would not come back on again by its own.

I removed the control board this weekend and it looks fine (ie, no burn marks or loose soldered connections on board as seen in other posts), however if I wiggle the wires leading from the inside top of the fridge cabinet to the control board, the compressor will come on, but again will not come on again after the temp is reached. So how do I know if the issue is with the control board and needs to be replaced, or if the issue is something else?

How do you defrost the kelvinator cyclic 300 fridge?

hi,
a manual defrost? unplug and get a 9by11 cake pan and a bunch of towels and a hairdryer. put the hairdryer on LOW only and get it positioned in the freezer (door) compartment so its pointing towards the back. cake pan in the bottom towels below. and on the floor. leave the door open about 3 or 4 inches but NOT shut so you have some air circulation. and check it frequently. make sure the hair dryer isnt pointed at the plastics at all. takes a day. pull it from the wall, remove the rear access cover behind the fridge and blow it out with a vac or air compressor too. theres an access panel inside the freezer and if your handy, your ice blockage causing that problem lives behind there in the freezer. use caution if your going to attempt taking that plate off inside. use nothing sharp.

I have a Ge refrigerator (model # PDS22MIsacc) it seems to be running alright, but the temperature control panel will not light. we are unable to change tempertures.

you will need to replace the main control board located on the rear panel behind an access panel, this board controls all temps and digital readouts, when the readout goes dark this board is the culprit

We have an Amana Side by side purchased in 2000. went on a 2month vacation, and turned the freezer temp down, and when we got home turned it back up, and now it won't keep the Ice Cream frooze, everything...

IS THERE A FROST BUILDUP ON THE BACK WALL OF THE
FREEZER INTERIOR? IF SO, AMANA IS MADE BY MAYTAG
AND THE ELECTRONIC BOARD THAT CONTROLS THE DEFROST IS MOST LIKELY SUSPECT. IT IS LOCATED IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER OF THE CONTROL PANEL IN THE REFRIGERATOR SECTION {INSIDE BACK RIGHT CORNER).
THE ENTIRE UPPER PANEL HAS TO BE REMOVED TO GAIN ACCESS. WHERE THE WIRES CONNECT, THERE ARE 2
TERMINALS MARKED TEST. SHORTING THESE TWO TERMINALS WILL ACTIVATE THE DEFROST MODE OF THE CONTROL. IF IT FAILS, REPLACE THE CONTROL.
