You can try a new capacitor, or test your existing one.
Plug its power cord directly to an outlet, no extensions, power lost in inapropiate power cords is also a probable cause.
Does the motor turn by hand or is it sticking?
One thing is an electric problem, another would be mechanical.

SOURCE: The drain plug on my Porter Cable pancake

Yes...the drain valve on the bottom of the tank is just a standard 1/4 Drain Pedcock that you can purchase at most hardware store.
You can also find these in the hardware section of Lowes or Home Depot where they sell the Air Compressors.

SOURCE: my porter cable c2002 150 psi gal compressor the

According to Porter-Cable (Delta) themselves, they had lots of bad regulators on these compressors. I'm waiting for one myself. Same issue

How to test electric switch on porter cable air compressor

What you need is something called a volt-ohm meter.
Obtain one and use it to test your switch and wiring.

My Porter Cable pancake outlet regulator doesn't seem to work.

If your quick coupler is not jammed up, (remove & test) and assuming you are pulling the regulator knob out to adjust the pressure and it is not stripped, you will need a new manifold kit.
There are about 6 versions of this unit so you will need model and type to get the correct part. There are no individual regulator parts available for this unit.

I have a porter cable 6 gallon compressor. The motor used to cut out at 150 psi, but now it cuts out at 135. Is this a faulty tank pressure gauge misreading the pressure or a motor cutting out too early

it could be your air pressure adjustment knob, where your air line hooks up, which controls the psi to a lower or highist seting to adjust for different tools and uses.

Why my air compressor want shut off after building up pressure

If it is building up to the full rated pressure and there are no air leaks in the hoses then it is most likely the pressure switch. It is item 111 in this parts diagram.

My four-year old PC pancake compressor starts fine but only builds up 60 psi no matter how I adjust the pressure regulator. The compressor motor runs continuously. I checked for air leaks and can't find...

First take off the head on the air pump and check the reed valves on the valve plate. If they got hot and warped or cracked they'll work to a point then no more pressure can be built up. Next check the pistion ring and cylinder wall. If either is damaged you'll only get so much pressure build-up then it will leak past the piston.

Trouble building pressure

I would check the reed valves in the pump. One of them may be broken.
