How do i get key section back into barrel - Locks & Locksmithing

the key barrel and the switch are 2 separate itehs
if you are replacing the switch --no as the immobilizer section is in the front of the key barrel

if you do it properly --nothing
if it is the key barrel that is faulty, having a locksmith remove re-key the new barrel to the existing key then the immobilizer is maintained
if it is an ignition switch ( part attach to the back of the barrel and bolted to the steering column) that is faulty split it off the front section and replace it as a separate unit
immobilizer is operational
if you rip the lot of the column and replace it it all , you have to reprogram the system at a cost starting at $500.00

normally only if you replace the cylinder barrel
the immobilizer section is at the end of the barrel normally under the trim and the switch is a separate unit to the barrel

the barrel is the bit that the key fits in
it is held in the switch body by a clip or spring
talk with a locksmith as to how the barrel comes out
your problem here is that when replacing the barrel , the key in use will not activate the immobilizer
better to have the locksmith change the barrel so that the existing key can be used eliminating the immobilizer problem

the ignition key you are using is not programmed(the transponder key) and the vehicle will not start
if the battery in the key has beed replaced recently or button section comes off of key when trying to remove key from ignition barrel check for little black rectangle chip on floor of car
slide button section of key assembly off by inserting small flat blade screwdriver in rectangle slot near key shank on one side of key so that remote button section is separated from key shank.
on inside of key blade plastic U section small black transponder chip just sits in slot (make sure its there) if it is take to dealer to reprogram, if its not there and you cant find it you needd to buy new one from dealer and get it programmed

Simply grab the top rotating section, and the lower barrel, and pull apart. This will expose a clear tube in the lower section, where the new lead may be inserted, up to 6 pieces max. Then gently push the top back into the lower section.

on the left side of barrel, look for a dowel, there should be a vary small opening that you can take something as small as a pinhead and push the dowel in ,while pushing in on dowel pull the barrel out.the key may need to also be in on position for removal. try that and see if it works. if not please repost your question. thank you for choosing fixya.com

just a guess on this one , some ignition barrels have a button underneath the key barrel , and to remove key you must push this in and turn key back one more klick away from start direction .

i am hoping that original key is in ignition , you can get ignition barrel replaced with new keys , but some steerng parts need dissasembling .
and some are pains to remove .
hope it was this simple !

replace the whole ignition barrel with new key and get key programmed by dealer
can remove barrel and key by removing steering column covers turn ignition to on position and with small shank screw driver push in hole in outer top rear section of barrel assembly then pull out ignition lock barrel with key in it. fit new lock barrel and key, program new key into system and can get door lock barrels coded to suit new key or get code for old key and cut new key so it fits mechanical locks on the rest of the vehicle (just wont turn in ignition) 2 keys for vehicle.

you will have to split the ignition barrel, using either a hammer and small thin chisel or an old screw driver, if you split both side opposite the barrel will fall out, it will in some cases leave the barrel stalk in the black box (the electrical black plastic box at the other side of the barrel housing) to remove this turn with a screwdriver to either position 1 or position 2, at the front of the barrel housing is a release pin hole which will need a small allen key or pot rivet pushing into it to release the barrel stalk, remove with pliars or with flat blade screw drive, place key in new barrell hold thumb over secure pin holding it into the new barrel, then gently turn key 90 degrees, and offer into barrel housing, ensure the secure pin is at all time still into the barrel, slide the barrel into houseing slowly until you mate up the barrel stalk to the black box, and slide in until you hear the secure pin click into place, turn key back to zere and remove slowly, the new barrel is fitted. should take about an hour from start to finish, if it was not seized no more than 15 min to complete. hope this helps.
