Just replaced globe and it blew straight away

There are a few different globes for fridges. If the wrong one has jammed in there, its probably not touching the terminals properly. Unplug the fridge (There are LIVE terminals in the globe socket) Use a towel or something in case the globe breaks and unscrew the globe. Take the old globe in to a lighting shop to get the correct globe.

Did you replace the bulb with one of the same voltage rating?

 

Seems strange that a new bulb should blow straight away, maybe it was faulty.

 

This sounds like a blown fuse.

check globe - Could be element blown on low beam part of globe. A lot of globes are haligon globes with two elements my low beam filament blew two weeks ago and I just replaced the globe but if you look at the globe you will see one of the two filaments is vapourised (missing) if blown.

The fuse blows to prevent wire melting and eventual fire! If it blows straight away then there will be a short circuit somewhere in the circuit, which means the electricity is going from the battery positive to the fuse then straight back to the battery negative without any resistance. You would have to follow the wiring and test components until the fuse no longer blows. :)

brian_au no 1 solution is wrong.. globe is under a spring clip cover . remove cover, then unplug, then release retaining spring behind the globe. replacement is just process reversal

You best resolution now may be to replace the light kit with one available at Home Depot ..

go to your parts suppler and ask for a H4 globe pop your bonnet and remove the plug on the back of your head light then remove the rubber boot paying attention to which way it cam off then you will find a spring clip unclip it but be careful not to damage its anchor point. remove old globe an throw away take new globe out of box DO NOT TOTCH THE GLASS OF THE GLOB AS IT WILL CAUSE THE GLOBE TO BLOW STAAIGHT AWAY AFTER FITTING IT handle the globe by the metle bass and fit it, refit spring clip and rubber boot fit the plugf and check the operation of the light
