My Suzuki SSP-88 piano spontaneously issues a 3-tone descending "pling-pling-pling" sound when it has been sitting idle for a while (about 20-30 minutes). How do I stop this? I have read the whole manual, and it is not mentioned.

The contacts of various switches and keys are likely dirty. They are often conductive rubber and need cleaning with 99% isoprophly alcohol and q-tip. Clean both the conductive rubber pill and th circuit board traces they contact.

Let's try a factory reset.
1.Turn off the piano
2.find the last white key in the the upper register of the piano. Should be c on an 88 key piano. Hold it down note while turning the piano back on.....if you have a screen on your piano, it will say reset......if not just wait a few seconds after it powers on to let go of the key.
3.If it's just assignment issues in the board, your piano should be back to new.
Warning!!!! If you have custom sounds or recordings....save them first, as this will erase them....if not...your piano will be reset to the settings that came from the factory.....It will be like you just bought it.

I discovered later that it is the signal for Bluetooth connecting or disconnecting. You can connect, for example, your phone to the piano with Bluetooth to play YouTube sound through the piano’s speakers, but the did not build a way for the piano to turn on or off this connectivity.
