SOURCE: Help - I am trying to install a honeywell RLV4300A

You will have to have schematics from the old wiring diagram. Then you will have to confirm its consistency with actual old wiring before you can be sure that the wires run to the proper places on the old heater and a/c system. This sounds like a gas furnace and is simpler than a heatpump. Once you know what distinguishes the wires with the same color, you should label them and then you may call them a different color if they were wired with wrong wire colors. You may be in luck if you go to the furnace control box an look at the terminals.. They are usually labeled with a R for Red and W for white and Bl for Blue and B or Black. If you have other colors on these then it sounds that it was wired with wire spare wire by someone who knew what they were doing but neglected to leave a path for someone else follow.
You may be able to use a continuity tester of circuit tester to id these wires that are in question...
ie, once indintified, you can match with the requirements of the new stat.

How to set up??

First, you have to make sure that the thermostat is set to conventional and not heat pump. Then, the best way to know where the wires go, is to mark what terminals the came off of from the old stat. If that isn't possible, the next best thing to do is go to the unit and see where each wire goes. This is because the wire colors are not exactly set to any certain standard. It's at the discretion of the person installing the system in the first place to use whatever colors they like, to work any part of the system the choose.
The basics/commonly used colors are:
Red- R terminal- Power
Green- G terminal- Fan
White- W terminal- Heat
Yellow- Y terminal- Cooling
Blue- C terminal- Common
Heat Pump Thermostats use more wires, such as:
Orange or Black - O/B terminal- Reversing Valve
Brown- W2/Aux terminal- Heat

My suggestion would be that your black wire is for your cooling(Y), and all other colors wire up to the corresponding terminals. There are many systems that are ran only by 2 and 4 wire setups, therefore, it's possible that whoever ran your wire initially did not have a yellow wire in the strand. Also, if there is a yellow wire in the strand(possible 7wire strand), it could also be that the wire had a short and they switch the wires to bypass the short. Hope this helps and Happy Holidays!

I bought the rth2510 to replace an old dial one and i need help wiring it up there are only 2 wires that ran the old one, where should i put these in the new one. A black wire and a white wire?

Wow, you bought one hell of a thermostat to run just a heater...lol. Your going to place on wire on R and 1 wire on W/AUX. R is your common power in and W/AUX is for a single stage cooling unit.

Replaced Bryant T-stat model TSTATBBNB001 with Honeywell t-stat

Your original wiring configuration seems to indicate that you have an air conditioner (not heat pump) and either a gas or electric furnace. If this is the case you may need a different thermostat for your application.

I am replacing old 220 volt thermostat with a programable 220 volt thermostat. There are 6 wires in the box. (3 black & 3 red) There are only two black wires on the new thermostat. On the old...

Hi, this can be confusing. Be sure you have the power off before you wire it, but first you have to have an elect meter. The 6 wires in the box you will only use 2 of them. Cap the other 4 off. Use the 2 that have the correct voltage across them, 208, 220, 240 volts. The new stat is only set up for 2 hot wires 120 each. That will do it. Not to bad. be careful! Use care. Good Luck, Sincerely,
