Could be that the belt has stretched and it needs to be retightened or replaced with new one.

Your device number does not appear to be a valid HP model.
You can clean the touchpad with methylated spirits, to get rid of the sugar.
Then check the control panel, then mouse icon to see if the touchpad is installed or enabled. It may have been disabled by Windows due to the sugar.
If it is disabled, you can re-enable it in Device Manager.
You can also try and re-load the mouse pad driver software from HP.com, if you can correctly identify your PC model number.

Main Control Board

Click Start/Control Panel and look for the Mouse and open it to check the mouse properties. Make sure you don't have the touchpad disabled.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad on or off by clicking on the button that is located at the top of the touch pad in the middle.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad by tapping twice in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad.

Some models will require a keystroke to toggle the touchpad. Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key located at the lower left portion of the keyboard, then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key to hit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square that represents the touchpad.

check the driver if its installed correctly in device manager
start>setings>control panel>system>hardware>device manager>look for the listings if you found the touchpad hardware is installed correctly then tell me the model of the laptop

not a good model number to check up on, but genearlly if theres button on the touchpad not responding replacing the touchpad is only option. the touchpad is not a servicable item. needs repalcing
