Trying to repair my Powerware 9120. A while ago it was gracefully shut down after an extended outage and when we turned it back on it emitted a flash of light and a bang through the air vent. I assumed it was probably unhappy about the poor state of its batteries, I took them all out and recycled then and am now trying to get the ups going again. I replaced a fuse (f3) that had blown (5 meg ohms resistance). No skidmarks I can see, haven't ruled out a dry cap. I've tried to power it up, without batteries, it's making a ticking noise towarsds the front of the board and the TO-220 over by U06 is getting a bit hot... U06 would be about where to the ticking noise is coming from too. At a guess, it's part of a switch mode supply and something has gone wrong. Nothing else in the unit is getting hot so I don't think the power supply is driving anything Anyone got any pointers for where to start?

SOURCE: Benq PE8700 - Won't Power Up

Hi there

Trust me that the Mainboard needs replacement.

I am very familiar with the PE8700's as I am a ASP Technician for BenQ.

Visit www.BenQ.com and look for the link to your country - you should be able to allocate a Approved Service Provider.

Must warn you that the Mainboards on these models are quite expensive.

My Powerware 9120 2000 has low power alarm and shutdown at 50% charge

A Powerware 9120 2000 is an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) device that provides power backup to connected devices in case of power outages or other power issues. If the UPS is shutting down at 50% charge and showing low power alarm, there could be several possible causes:
  1. The battery is failing: The UPS is designed to shut down when the battery charge reaches a certain level to prevent damage to the battery. If the battery is failing, it may not be holding a charge and may need to be replaced.
  2. The battery is not compatible: Make sure that the battery you are using is compatible with the Powerware 9120 2000 UPS. Using an incompatible battery can cause the UPS to shut down or display error messages.
  3. The battery cable is loose: Check the battery cable connections to ensure that they are tight and secure. A loose battery cable can cause the UPS to shut down or display error messages.
  4. The UPS is overheating: Check the UPS for any signs of overheating, such as a hot feeling on the top of the unit or a burning smell. An overheating UPS can cause the UPS to shut down or display error messages.
  5. The UPS firmware is outdated or corrupted: Check to ensure that the UPS firmware is up to date and not corrupted. Outdated or corrupted firmware can cause the UPS to shut down or display error messages.
If none of these solutions solve the problem, it's recommended to contact the manufacturer or a professional technician for further assistance. They will have the knowledge and expertise to troubleshoot and diagnose the issue with your Powerware 9120 2000 UPS.

Can I replace the fan in a live powerware 9120?

hey dude your problem is so simple..below are my solutions.
if you already secured the fans for the replacement then its easy for you to do it, try to totally shut down your UPS removing the input and battery supply. avoid replacing the fans with power, its to dangerous. it consist of almost 400VDC inside in it.

Uninterruptible Power Supply problems. My uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is not backing up during a utility power outage.

First, we do need to full charge it. Then see what's being able to pick up a load of this Ups power or not? If not then it means something is wrong with this Ups. Please put this change.
