Probable the motor is no good and shorted.
Testimonial: "This compressor is not old, as a matter of fact, it has only been used three times( if that many ) but it was purchased at Harbor Freight maybe a year ago. Could it be something else that could also cause this compressor to stop running besides a shorted out motor, could it just be that Harber Freight sold me a cheep inferior air compressor?"
Sorry there is no magic mouse milk to pour on your comp. Experience is an expensive lesson. I made the mistake of buying a HF compressor I got what I paid for and had to toss it. Any repair parts (if you can find them) will most likely exceed the cost of compressor. CAMPBELL HAUSFIELD is sold under different names. . Make selection based on what you can do with comp. No matter your choice it will to small. Also use rubber hoses rather than plastic they will remain flexible when cold while plastic ones will not lay straight. In my shop I run oil lubed compressor than than oil less. Look at HD or Lowe's. Personally I would stay away from orange I prefer yellow tools or blue tools. Good Luck.

SOURCE: Craftman 3gal/1hp air compressor runs normal, but
Chek for pressure BEFORE REGULATOR,if the problem remains worn rings or valve seats most likely source of trouble.
SOURCE: I have an older model Sears Craftsman air
Could be the bearing in the pully wheel rides on,,not the belt,,,While its running spray some belt dressing on belt to see if its the belt,,,while running get a can of wd-40 with long nosel attachment and spray the armeture that tures pully when you spray it if its the bearing it will stop makeing noise momentarly, than come back again than as you spray it it will stop as long as you spray. BE CAREFUL. Bearings wear out when old,,,like us!
SOURCE: my craftsman 3gal. compressor starts and run but
Is the petcock down below open or closed? If open, then screw it closed. Also, is the compressor portion connected to the motor working as it should? As the motor reciprocates, it should operate the compressor piston that pumps air pressure into the tank. Maybe something is broken there.

First thing... that model of air compressor was recalled in 2011.

If that is of no concern to you... then look in the manual about how to adjust the cut-in pressure. The cut-in pressure is what controls when the compressor portion turns back on. There is often a set screw that controls this.
