The cable connecting to the PC might be loose, or the part entering the monitor could be.
Try turning the monitor on, and after a few seconds, turn on the computer. You should be able to see the BIOS POST screen text flashing by. If you can't, there is something wrong in your hardware settings.
If you can, however, that's the OS resolution set too high: the monitor shuts down to protect itself. Boot in safe mode by pressing the F8 key immediately after powering up, then lower the video resolution in Control Panel display settings to something safe - 1024 x 768 usually does the trick. At that point you can reboot in normal mode and raise the resolution again to the maximum supported by the monitor (check the manual for that).

Common problem is in the DC filter caps in the power supply circuits, that will be the first thing to look for first, please note that bad cap can look normal but can have high ESR. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps).
