The past few days, the only way to turn off my dryer is to open the door. Otherwise, it will go forever. For about a week before that, it would stop at 6 minutes and keep running until I turned off the power. Has anyone else had these problems?

I have the same model LG 2514W dryer. It has been working great for the last 3 yrs. Just recently it started to pause at 6min and continue to dry when everything inside was dry.
Do not waste your time calling a repair guy. It is not the digital/circuit board at all. These products are not self cleaning and which dryers are? It is just minor maintenance that should be done periodically. Below is the solution:
1. First have your vacuum nearby and remove the lint trap and vacuum it. Then proceed to vacuum as much as possible inside.
2. Once this is done you'll see two screws in the center of the housing for the lint trap. You'll see this when you stick your head in the dryer. On the right is the sensors. Remove them. Then remove the outter ones on either side of the larger housing for the lint trap.
3. Once this is all done start to vacuum all the lint and other build up. After that you'll need a damp cloth and start cleaning all the remaining build up of lint etc. Wipe the sensors etc. Once it is all clean put it back together and do a test run with some dry clothes.
I haven't had a problem since. Remember to do this once or twice a year. Remember they are not self cleaning.

Is it a mechanical timer you turn (the "clickety-clank"-kind) to set the time? Sounds like something in it has been worn out. Shouldn't be too hart to get a replacement for it,t and you should also probably be able to replace it yourself unless you're very "un-handy", or want to play it safe.
If it's completely digital I thinIk the quickest way to get a diagnose is  to have a serviceman hook it up to his computer. They can usually read out any errormessages and such that way.
It may be as easy as changing a small curquit board inside, but it's much more dificult to see what is wrong if there isn't any components that are oeviously burnt or something like that.

I called LG because I have the same issue. They said it was chemicals from dryer sheets building up on the sensors. I haven't tried it yet - but they said clean the sensors in the drum with water and a mild soap if necessary and that should correct the issue.
This is not the issue. I cleaned my sensors, and it still runs, even if the power is off. The only option is to keep the door open, or unplug the power. This is a fault with the control board, which is absurdly expensive - almost half the price of the dryer itself.
Never, ever, ever buying an LG product again.

I ended up just unplugging my dryer, waiting a few minutes and then plugging it back in. Problem solved!
I had the "6 minute problem" so I decided to clean the SENSORS.
When I looked for sensors in the drum I thought there was a real thick
covering of lint- but it was a dryer sheet wadded up & caught
against the sensor. I pulled it off- PROBLEM SOLVED. Thanks to
all.

I have the six minute problem and would like to know where the sensors are so I can clean them. I have checked the exhaust to be sure that was clear.

I have a DLE2050W, and I was luckily able to get it to work.
Would not turn off. Front power button turned off display lights, but would not turn off unless I unplugged or opened the door.
Removed lid, control panel, and panels covering switches behind the front panel buttons.
Depressed the power switch (little black rectangular solid, with little 3/16" red circle, then 1/16" button in middle).
I was just curious. Reassembled, as it was getting late. I was going to work on it today.
But when I reassembled, I noticed that it did not turn back on until I actually hit the power button.
Normally, just plugging it in would cause it to run. It's fixed!
So maybe the switch was stuck or in a bad state?
Very easy to disassemble. Take pics if you are afraid. You can find a vid on how to remove the lid. Loosen three lower screws in back of lid, slide back toward wall, then lift.
Remove plugs from control board, remove control board, remove plates covering switches behind front buttons. 8 screws.

My LG DLEX2501V dryer would not stop turning unless I opened the door. With the door closed, the dryer would spin, no matter what buttons I pushed. Pushing the power button would turn the digital display on or off, and I could push buttons all I wanted, but the dryer would not start.
I followed your directions: 1) unplug the dryer, 2) remove the lid, 3) unplug the 10 control board wire plugs, 4) unscrew and remove the control board and front button face together, 5) unscrew 8 screws to remove the control board from the button face, 6) find the power switch and press it a few times, and 7) re-assemble everything in reverse order.
The one weird thing is, after I re-assembled everything but BEFORE I put the lid back on, I tried it out, and the problem was not fixed--when I closed the front door, the dryer still spun prior to me pressing the power button, and I thought that the problem was not fixed. I put the lid back on in defeat, thinking I was going to have to spend $100 on a new control board. But, somehow, after I put the lid back on and pushed it back into place, it then worked just fine. It really didn't make sense that I would disassemble everything and press the button then re-assemble the electronics and it not work, but about 10 minutes later, it did work. I'm not sure if putting back the lid or sliding it back into place may have provided some kind of grounding or something. But at any rate, it worked after the whole re-assembly process was finished, and now the dryer stops when I press the power button off, and it comes on when I power up and start it.
My full investment in this fix: about a half hour of disassembly and reassembly, and $0.

The above did not work for me, however, here is what did after a lot of frustration (and finding out they don't make the main control board to replace):
LG Dryer Model dlex2501v
RESOLUTION
1) Plug Dryer in. 2) Open dryer door. 3) Cup your hand and hit around the buttons "Dry Level", "Time Dry", and "Temp Control" FAIRLY HARD without breaking the plastic. (This will reset the relay that is stuck.) 5) Shut the dryer door. - Should be fixed. *I HOPE THIS HELPS!*
Press power button to turn on, open the door, press power button again to turn off. Press and hold power button, unplug from power and plug back in while holding power button. This should reset the relay and stop the dryer from running when door is closed (when cycle is done).
